RD is the violent reckless one in a team of pacifists, so it makes sense she would fall victim to a bit of The Complainer Is Always Wrong at times. Some episodes like Hurricane Fluttershy help balance things and give it an extra dimention however.

[up][up]It was more her causing an uproar over the cider and supporting a sleazy new party in order to get one. She was also the one who suggested resorting to the same cutting corners tactics as the brothers, placing in the "care over quantity" moral. It was Played for Laughs a lot more, but still, she was about the only character who got anything close to an Aesop that episode.

I don't think they're pacifists seeing as how they're willing to beat the crap out of Changelings and fry supervillains with the Elements.

They actually haven't done much crusading in season 2.

[up][up]More they are Pacifists in that they know when to strategize and reason when the threat isn't extreme enough to warrant violence. Though granted hypocrisy or Designated Heroes isn't uncommon with some shows using The Complainer Is Always Wrong (it hasn't gotten that bad in FIM yet though).

I will give credit in that it's one of the few shows that point out the over tactizing "by the book" character doesn't always have it right either.

@Psi 001: True. She still had a point when she said that quality didn't matter if you couldn't get any at all, and there were things the Apple family could have done before to prevent that.

I guess it says something about the way RD is treated that I was genuinely surprised that she join Flim and Flam in a more active way. Yeah, I know Element of Loyalty and all that, but still, that seemed like what they were building to.

Did season 2 rescue the Crusaders from the scrappy heap for anyone else?

@ Psi, "You keep using that word, I do not think it means what you think it means"

Pacifist means they simply do not use violence, not that violence isn't there first solution. They only Mane 6 that would count as a pacifist is Fluttershy, the rest are more then willing to beat down somepony/thing that needs it.

@Purple Dalek - I didn't mind them much.

Fair enough. Still it's a show about friendship and morals so RD's usual behaviour doesn't usually cut it.

@Mio: RD admitedly gets a few Jerkass Has a Point moments, she made a good argument against Fluttershy in the Dragon Quest opening that at least didn't require getting her head kicked in as retaliation. They aren't actually pointed out as such in universe so they likely don't count as much into how her character is intentionally played. Rule of Funny probably comes in here a bit though.

[up][up][up]Meh, I didn't really see much of a problem with them (I've actually seen more episodes of them in season two). Cast Herds work for variety anyway. Only big complaint is that they maybe got a couple too many episodes.

Hi, Fallen.

I'd say the Mane Six are Technical Pacifists. None of them would ever kill someone but they're still willing to open a can of whoop ass every so often.

@Purple: S2 definitely handled them better in the sense that it gave them motivation to do stuff other than go crusading, but I still generally think the plots are a bit more simplified than the mane cast plots. Mainly because a lot of the time the whole "right/wrong" dichotomy is more clearly stated and because the CMC tend to function more as a unit than three separate characters. So far I don't think I can consider any of the CMC episodes particularly awesome until they play up the inter-group conflict a bit more.

[up]I admit I would like more Divergent Character Evolution concerning the CMC. They still seem too interchangable, even in their individual episodes.

I don't know, Sisterhooves Social and Family Appreciation Day really wouldn't have worked if you swapped Sweetie Belle and Apple Bloom in them, IMO.

[up]It seemed like their more distinctive relatives were making the scenarios unique rather than their own personalities however. I could see Sweetie Belle being embarrassed by a kooky grandparent or Apple Bloom losing her rag with her older siblings (especially after Bridle Gossip) it's just their current setup doesn't provoke it.

If anything Sweetie Belle's brattier personality in Sisterhooves actually made her seem more interchangable with the other two.

Thing is, that's less because they have different personalities, and more because they just happen to be related to those ponies. Yeah, you couldn't exchange Apple Bloom and Sweetie Belle, but that's because Sweetie Belle isn't related to Granny. If feel like if you game Apple Bloom Sweetie's personality for that episode, it would have played out very similarly Although I do agree that Sisterhooves Social was big step in the right direction. I wish they had more episodes like that.

EDIT: Aaaand ninja'd. I would say they're a bit less interchangeable in Sisterhooves Social, mainly because Apple Bloom is established to be more artisitically inclined. She'd still probably cause trouble, but I could see her not being quite as huge of a thorn in Rarity's side as Sweetie Belle is.

I'm not sure about that. The Crusaders do have some unique traits of their own (Apple Bloom is smart, Sweetie Belle is ditzy, Scootaloo is snarky etc.)
