@van It's not that different.

@JT I need to rewatch UHF sometime.

@Ace: True. They should have the basic mama/dada/Pinkie stuff down by then.

I guess I am one of the few who couldn't sympathize much with Twilight from that episode.

@Mio: Okay, I can sort of see that.

@Sky: Like, right now?

@D Roy: I was going through my first semester of graduate school when the episode aired. I was basically like "that's me!" There's a reason I had Crazy Twilight as my avatar for a while.

And honestly the over the top animation didn't bug me that much; a lot of the humor derived from the incongruity of the most logical pony going bloody loco and getting a slasher smile.

We still don't know anything about the villain in the Crystal Empire episodes do we? I'm pretty sure we'd been hearing bits of info about Discord by this time last year. Wonder if we won't be getting a villain this time.

@Mio: While I admit Twilight got off easy, I think the basic moral was hammered into her (at least to the same effect the others do or don't each episode). I loved the small interaction with Spike in the end anyway, which I think was an awesome showing of humility and that she needed him to keep her head straight, without any words.

I initially didn't like Lesson Zero because Twilight was so exaggerated, but it's grown on me.

You know what we need? A villain.

Voiced by Ron Perlman.

Then I can die happy.

I wonder who the villain of the S3 premiere will be. Will we see the fascist penguins from G1 again?

@Ed: That scene alone justifies the existence of the episode. When she exploded out of the beach ball I laughed so hard I almost fell out of my chair.

@D Roy: That would be cool, but if I got to do the casting, Tim Curry all the way.

@JT - Yeah, that scene was one of my favorite moments in the whole episode, if not the season (what I watched so far, anyways).

Big Macintosh stole the whole episode for me, though. tongue

You're telling me it beat this scene?

By the way, van, sorry if we're spoiling all of the episode for you.

Hee. I love that little ear twitch she has in that scene.

@van You probably won't enjoy this episode, based on that reaction.

I agree with Jt twilight's breakdown was very beliebable imo.

@Psi 001: It wasn't so much that the moral wasn't hammered into her. It was the fact that when it came right down to it she failed to acknowledge the real damage she caused in favor of dwelling on the Celestia forsaken letter.

Personally, I don't care how academically oriented you are. If you did what Twilight did at the end of that episode and the only thing you feel sorry about is that you failed to finish your project on time, then there are serious problems.

[up][up]Well she did have a My God, What Have I Done? moment concerning it beforehand.

Admitedly it plays into Twilight, she is pretty much Failed a Spot Check personified.

Onto the next episode.

Slow motion of AJ jumping. Yeah, I can ignore that. There is no way it can be a foreshadowing of anything, it would be silly!

Oh wow, did AJ just blush? Very clearly, at that? That's one of the cutest things I've ever seen from this show and you know it says a lot.

@Mio: I just assumed that Celestia admonished her offscreen. I do agree that they should have focused a bit more on the brainwashing thing though. That and Twilight is still not exactly thinking clearly. I'd guess the realization kicked in the next day or something.

[up][up][up]Failing a spot check is one thing. Having such immensely screwed priorities is quite another.

If I were Celestia, I would have chewed her out and taken her back to Canterlot, since clearly she has a lot more to learn about then friendship.
