There's some Classical and pre-Classical fanon which claims that before the founding of what would become Equestria eventually, there wasn't good prospects for a pony born a different race from their parents, and mixed-race marriages were taboo in those dark yesteryears.

Alicorns are a rare genetic mutation that pops up from time to time, but until recently ponies were superstituous and almost always left them in the wilderness to die. That's why Cadence is so young and the only other known alicorns are sisters.

@Yeller: Rather, the Royal Family of the Unicorns kept secret the fact that they actually have alicornism for hundreds of years, having secreted away their obvious alicorns to a Secret Garden while any ruling Royals would wear elaborate robes and cloaks and other clothes to hide their wings.

So many place names, although they missed Froggy Bottom Swamp and Trottingham and apparently Hoofington does not exist in canon.

Galloping Gorge? Sounds like a place that might crop up in S3.
Appleloosa's orchards must be exaggerated, otherwise the buffalo might be legit to be mad at them :V I mean, they're comparable to the Everfree in area! Of course, the map claims it's not to scale, so there.
Dodge is apparently 1 Y-junction away from Appleloosa. Cherry x Braeburn frontiershipping go!

My OCR isn't very strong, but I try my best.

Is the map actually canon? Also, that Twilight and Nerdy PMV wasn't very good. No lip synching and they barely tried to watch up the video with the lyrics.

There is a disclaimer at the bottom of the map that says its not to scale. So Im imagining that some of those places are exaggerated in size so they show up clearly on the map.
