Like the first dub of Sailor Moon?

I think I'm wrong...

Oh, here's one for those who play games, Checkpoint Starvation. I've pretty much given up on Cave Story for now because of this.

I think Brutha is more simple than stupid, much like Carrot. People just mistake his straight-forwardness for being an idiot.

Humans are Warriors is just subtype of Special.

No, all other warrior races are handicaped because of that, but humans allways get only perks from that. Babylon 5 (or more like manual stuff) presented it in most obnoxius way.

Time To Unlock more True Potential? God, what manner of BS is this? I'll tell you, it's stupid. More true potential is nonsense, I want creativity! Use the same powers, but find a new way of doing them, Ichigo! GAWD!

This is great. I'm trying to write a Shonen comic, and I want to know the pitfalls.

I liked Gundam Wing. There was some power level upgrading, but more often it was a matter of figuring out who the fuck they were supposed to be fighting rather than trying to level up to beat the bad guy.

Talking about anime, huh?

Most recent one I watched was Hidamari Sketch...

[up][up]Yeah, avoid Time to Unlock More True Potential like the plague. If you ever have a situation where the hero is down and spontaneously manifests a new power through sheer force of will, you might want to rethink things.

Stuff like this is why I liked Code Geass. Lelouch was actually not a bonehead about things and was smart about finding new ways to use his resources rather than spontaneously discovering new abilities.

Unless it's the backstory or the first chapter.

[up]Well yeah, I just hate it when the villain has the hero beat only for the guy to pull a new ability out of his ass. They can manifest new abilities, but they have to make sense and not be a Deus ex Machina.

0ne Piece is very good about using a few special powers in creative and interesting ways.

Well my main character has a very limited range of spells...but he's very resourceful with them.

I tend to write basic overpowered characters and have a fairly simple team set up. In fact, it took me a while to realize I was basically letting my characters "kill steal" and I was quite pleased with this fact.

Remember Applelight, teamwork and collaboration. one on one matches 24/7 365 a year is a shounen's biggest and worst crime, especially with large and diverse casts ie Naruto, DBZ, Rave Master, Bleach, Yu Yu Hakesho, even One Piece is sadly subject to this curse.

Did we watch the same Code Geass?
Life is simple: it has no nontrivial normal subgroups.

If you ever have a situation where the hero is down and spontaneously manifests a new power through sheer force of will, you might want to rethink things.

My personal favorite example is from Eragon: the main character discovers that he has magical powers halfway through the book by shouting a random word in the middle of a battle and it just happens to be the magic word for "fireball." The justification is that he heard his mentor mutter it once and thought it was a swear word.

The only human character in my stories with special powers is Mihirimah Sultana; who has shoes that allow her to walk on any surface.

This talk about new powers is why, if I ever made anything original, my main charector and the other charectors would be Badass normal's. No power level bullcrap or anything like that. Just hand-to-hand combat and gunfights.

Iuffy has exactly ONE power, and invented plenty new ways to be stronger with the exact same power, science be damned, using your rubber body to super propell circulation was a good idea!
