Midnight Velvet sounds a lot like a Pony name in a similar vein to Twilight Sparkle now that I think aboot it.

Pony names do tend to be structured around nouns, and the occasional adjective. I don't think we've even had a pony name that would make for a plausible real-life name. (Then again, we probably have, but it'd be the exception.)
