Never read that, and it's too long to start reading now.

Kinda like Homestuck.

[up]Unlike Homestuck though, this fic is actually finished.

Yeah, it's a touch longer than War and Peace, but it never really feels boring.

I just cannot get into Fallout Equestria. It's probably because I never played the games to begin with (well, I played a little of Fallout 2, but I got bored quickly) so I'm probably missing a lot of references.
But they seem to know where they are going, the ones who walk away from Omelas.

I once started Fallout 1.

The really awkward interface chased me away in a few hours, and I never picked it up again.

I never played Fallout 3. I knew the beginning and the ending of the game and watched an hour or so of gameplay, and that was it (and the fic doesn't follow the ending anyway).

The author does a really good job of smoothing over references on both sides of the crossover. It's awesome when you see one, but if you don't there's not really a noticeable speedbump.

I need to read the ponified version of The Princess Bride some time. It's written by the same guy who does the Ask Aquilinius Tumblr.

IIRC there are two. I haven't seen one of them and can't comment on it, but the other might as well be a copy-paste of the screenplay with the names replaced; it's pretty bland.

I read half of the first chapter of the one I'm talking about. It was definitely different. It gave a very in-character explanation for why the Cutie Mark Crusaders are bedridden, and so on and so forth.

Yeah, that's it. It stops being original pretty quickly and turns into a (literally) verbatim blow-by-blow of the movie. The swordfight with Inigo goes off the rails for all of five seconds before choo-chooing right on with the script.

Aws. That's a disappointment, because I know the author can do good original work.

There was a pretty good MLP Groundhog Day crossover, if I remember correctly. With Blueblood as the protagonist, of all things.

I keep seeing Fallout Equestria but the sheer volume keeps me away.

Also its fallout. Grimdark people dying everywhere fallout.

[up][up] Pretty much everything by that author is pretty darn good. Before he wrote that, he had a really good World of Warcraft crossover that I kind of want to see a sequel to.

[up] I know. It's why I held off on reading it. Somehow, it works.

Fallout: Equestria is pretty amazing, imo. I haven't quite finished yet, but I can't wait to—there were a couple points in the beginning of "wait, the children's cartoon had an apocalypse?" but I quickly got drawn into it. The characters are great too. The only things that bother me are the occasional typos, and that's just what happens when you serially post fic.

I threadhop far too often.

Read My Little Dashie. It was okay. I have read both better and worse fics.

Re: Through the Eyes of Another Pony: I just figured out something about that...

I haven't read The Dresden Files, but I've been meaning to - I just can't find the first book anywhere. What's it called again? Despite this, I read The Dresden Fillies. It is good.

First book is Storm Front. And I started reading it precisely because one of the pony crossovers got me hooked.

Yeah I don't think I will be able to get into fallout equestria from the synopsis it seems a little too grimdark for my tastes.

[up][up]I want to read it because of that and one of my brothers reads the series (in fact, I recommended Forever! to him, and that's how he discovered ponyfic.)

[up]Not even going to try it. It's not my style.

It's really not that much darker than Dresden. There's the shock value stuff in the first few chapters coming out of the Stable, and then it actually backs off and you find out the first area was unusually shitholey even for the Wasteland.

Hell, if anything it's less bleak. Fallout Equestria's problems are all coming from surmountable villains, but Dresden's rogue's gallery is full of "incomprehensibly powerful deity that can turn you to ash by looking at you funny."

The main reason FE doesn't appeal to me is because I'm not a big fan of grimdark ponies in general. The show is one of the few straight up optimistic and happy shows out there, so transplanting it into a bleaker setting takes a lot of the appeal out of it.

You people and your weak stomach's.tongue

Personally, if a fanfic is really good enough, things that should prevent me from reading don't bother me in the least. Besides, one of the many diffrence's between F:E and half of the other grimndark's is that it actually has a story to it, and alot of thought and effort put into it.

[up]Not for me it doesn't. I love the lighthearted tone of the show and all, but not all fic's need to be the same. I just wish more grimdark's actually had story like F:E does.

I should really get around to reading FE at some ponit in my sad, sorry existence.

I just can't find the time. Too many projects going at once.
