The thing is that I'm already well on my way to designing an Equestria civ. The drawback of a Canterlot UB would be

A: Canterlot is already Equestria's capital, and
B: There really isn't a civ that has a Palace UB.

I'll still keep this in mind as a last resort, though. Cardgame over of Civilization Fanatics suggested the Wonderbolts' Track as a Colosseum replacement, too.

Civilisation-specific building?

Replace Granary with Orchard. Gives +2 food in the city.

Or replace Stables with... Pony Housing. Gives commerce in addition to mounted unit experience.

I think I'll probably go with the Orchard, since that has the highest probability of having existing graphics (I had to ask a unit maker for the Royal Guard, and I think it'll take some time before it's done).

Okay, good point, Pinkie would probably be a bit much for me. I would take Twilight, Rarity or Fluttershy, though.

RE: Civilization, you can just go with Celestia's Palace or something. Basically the capitol building instead of the city. Doesn't necessarily have to be built into a mountainside either

Cloudsdale would be a really interesting building to have, because you'd have to make it moveable.

And you'd so better have siege weapons that fire pies.

Depends on what you mean with background. If it's "anybody outside the mane six", then the CMC's and Luna already have had episodes. If you mean the really background ponies, I don't think so. If any of them were to get one, it would be fan favourites, but Derpy is just comedic releif/Where's Waldo, and they won't touch Doctor Whoof so that would leave us with, uh, Bonbon and Lyra. And maybe Octavia and that DJ. And I think they'll leave all those ponies to fanon, heh.

"Unique building" in Civ4 context doesn't mean "a world wonder that only exists in this coutry", it means "this country's variation of a common building every other civilisation can build".

Examples are Germany getting the Assembly Line instead of Factory, Egyptians getting the Obelisk instead of Monument and the United States getting Shopping Malls instead of Supermarkets.

Fandom nods are one thing, but just giving some random pony a canon personality (ala Pipsqueak, or something) doesn't have to be a fandom nod. They could always just use their own ideas.

Not entirely sure how I'd feel about a Cast Herd, though.
