I think that Rarity did have reason to be upset, but she shouldn't have gotten that upset with Sweeite. After all, she was just trying to help, and Rarity just kinda brushed her aside.

Okay, here's my theory on Sparkler:
Ditzy was found in the Everfree Forest by Sparkler's father, who brought her home to his family. After awhile, they unofficially adopted her as one of their own, and later had little Dinky.

Yeah I was just thinking "oh look, she's about to bite herself in the plot by being a drama queen."
One thing that does jump out at me is the show's tendency to not fall into "main characters will win every competition except when they need to learn humility." Kind of refreshing to see second place being met with "yeah, alright."
Also, bored Sweetie scooting herself across the floor on her face has to be the most freaking adorable thing I've seen in weeks
