That's what a beat 'em-up is.

I thought so too, but apparently not. A beat-em-up is more of a side-scrolling arcade type thing, IIRC.

I'm pretty sure he was thinking something more along the lines of Double Dragon than Street Fighter/Guilty Gear.

Fighting Game: One on one or tag team matches in an arena ála Street Fighter, Tekken, Marvel VS Capcom and soemtimes 4 player mayhem ála Super Smash Brothers.

Beat 'em Up: Walking around levels and beating the shit out of things, like Double Dragon, Final Fight, Streets of Rage, Asura's Wrath, Viewtiful Joe and so on.

Except Super Smash Brothers is kind of weird because the single player mode is like a fighting/beat-em-up/platforming hybrid.

Well yeah. The adventure mode of Smash Brothers has some beat em up levels, but the main attraction of the game is usually 4 player arena match mayhem.

But anyhow, the difference is clear between the two genres, but still they get confused, I see.

And games like Naruto Ultimate Ninja Storm and Dragon Ball Tenkaichi and Ragin Blast series might blur the line even more.

Well, I'm not much of a gamer. I was a massive Mario and Zelda fan when I was about 11, that's about it. To a layperson, "fighting game" and "beat-em-up" are basically the same thing.

I can see that.

Heck, to a "layperson" Shoot 'em Up and First-Person Shooter probobly sound like the same thing, despite one being Ikaruga and the other being Doom.

Anyhow, Mayor Mare in Final Fight taking Haggar's place? Epic.

Speaking of fighting is magic, I heard that the developers said that all the playable charectors are going to be ponies. That means no spike or gilda. Also, I have doubts about trixe being a playable charector because one of twilights recolor forms {What happens when you pick the same charector as your oppenent} is a recolor of trixe.

Guessing Spike, Gilda, Zecora or Discord.

Zecora is sort of a pony. She's an equine, and that's good enough for me.

I'm personally hoping for Spike, specifically, Soldier Spike.

Probably won't be discord. They decided all the characters way before season 2 aired.

...If Derpy's in the game, though, Discorded Ponyville would make a great arena for her.

I'm thinking Gilda and/or Spike. Just the difference in bodytype is enough to make unique movesets for those two.

Maybe Mane6 will surprise us and have Gummy or Angel be the non-pony fighter.

Gummy would be the best fighter EVER.

Also, I think Discord could be the random button. CHAOS! Never know which character you'll get.

when picking random character, it first shows one character as selected, but just before the loading screen appears, it changes once more!

I came to watch the show recently, at the recommendation of a friend. It began with me being dismissive of the show without even watching it at first, and still somewhat sceptical after he recommended it. I looked at some fanart and liked it, but was still wary of watching the show. I saw a few clips and thought them good. Finally, with an open mind, I watched my first episode. Then another. And another... I'm hooked. I just love this show and everything about it. My favourites in order have to be Fluttershy, followed by Pinkie Pie, Rainbow Dash, Applejack, Twilight Sparkle then Rarity (I don't dislike her, just like the others more). That's only of the Mane Cast, btw. Yep, I'm a Brony, and this show is one looong CMOA, H, and F. I'm just waiting for someone to say "Welcome To The Herd"...
