I haven't played ME. In fact, I haven't played many serious, dramatic, story based games at all. Only Iji and Cave Story come to mind.

Cave Story never made my cry, but Toroko and King's deaths made me actively seek revenge on The Doctor. That bastard.

Oh yeah, I found Iji terribly sad.
Journalism is just a gun. It's only got one bullet in it, but if you aim right, that's all you need.

Fortunately it's not nearly as sad if you play as pacifist.

I can't recall a story that I cried to.
Yeah, Andromeda is heading for you. You got over 9000 years until it collides.

I don't ever outright bawl or sob, but shows and books make me tear up a little all the time. I choked up damn near every episode of Code Geass. Videogames rarely have that strong of an effect on me though, probably because most of them aren't really that well written.

Alright, time to address some of the latest topics in this thread.

@Sonic corniness: I found Sonic Adventure 1, 2, and Unleashed to handle the story departments the best. Colors I perceive to be a serviceable affectionate parody of typical Sonic-game plots.

There were several games that put me on the verge of tears or made me cry.

Also, I think it's harder to tell a moving story in a game because it's less controlled and detailed.

Ahh, Cave Story. Good stuff. Thank you for reminding me a thing that I do not hate.

[up][up] Also, as I watched some L Ps of Heavy Rain, from my POV, the deaths are not corny - more like tragic (at least for the main characters).

Oh, I think I remember a sad moment. I didn't really cry, but I was upset when I let Trixy and Cid die in Pony Fantasy VI.
Yeah, Andromeda is heading for you. You got over 9000 years until it collides.

@Orion agreed. Many feels to derive from that scene.

Granted Many feels were derived from the opera scene but for different reasons.

I'm basically with Steve on this one; I'll be sad, but I almost never cry at fictional works. The only artistic medium that can regularly make me tear up is music. If a scene in a tv show or movie makes me tear up, it's almost certainly due to the bgm. Although even then I don't think anything has actually made be cry. That one scene from Dumbo came real close, though.

Dumbo. I cannot enjoy that movie. That one goddamn scene just plain ruined it for me.

[up][up]Come on, that's the best scene in the movie! tongue

[up]You should. It's quite good.

Also, I'm going to sleep. Goodnight everyone.

@Lurker: There's a hack you can install that allows you to prevent what you mention, among other things. Creates a branch for a fourth ending.

@nom In what, Cave Story or Mass Effect? Because you can prevent Mordin from dieing in ME if the conditions are just right, and outright preventing the deaths in either game would severely harm the emotional impact that those scenes are supposed to have, IMO.
