@claw: Depends. What's the story behind it? If you have a universe that supports the use of magic, then go for broke. Or it could be a combination magic/melee fight.

I have no idea yet myself, lol. This writing project is 1500 words (sue me, NaNoWriMo) so I haven't yet created a universe, although I was considering a style of Functional Magic or at least Fate/Stay Night or jrpg styled, though I'm not sure whether to focus on the creation of the rules and background details or to focus on the characters and story then fill in their battle styles.

Yes, I intended it to be a duel like battle rather than an all out war. Though I have also considered third party coming in ruining things but I may not have the word count for it.

That was my original intention, and it would definitely be a good read if it works, but having not actually written a fight scene (several things I've written have been kinda absurdism), with this project being sort of an experiment, I'm not sure how to pace the battle, while introducing/creating likeable characters and getting the reader attached to them, in 1500 words. It'll probably be first person, that's probably the most certain thing for me right now.

I'll probably be looking at the Weapon of Choice or Personality Powers pages a lot in the coming weeks, lol.

Pony Fantasy VI was quite cheesed-out. So many innate !Soar users, controllable !random skills, the easiest !Blitz inputs ever... the only reason why there is a challenge is because the bosses were buffed up.

Some of the optional bosses have apparently been beefed up to Shinryuu and Omega Weapon tier, mind. Storm Dragon leads with a powerful Wind attack, and has counter-scripts which make it smack you around like crazy, for starters.

I was mainly referring to how the story seems really, really hard, but then you learn a few tricks and its really easy (besides Obelisk and Axis Mundi, those are blatantly unfair)
