Celestia is really lonely and just wants to have friends. So she disguises herself and goes out slumming.

@ stevebat

I was following that story closely.

It's just unfair. My city's council can go suck it.

I don't get it.

Why's the dog being euthanized? Just because t looks like a pitbull?

Did it bite someone or something?

I wouldn't put it past her. She wants her subjects to recognise her as an equal, but as most don't she resorts to posing as someone else completely through clever use of polymorph or illusion magic.

The decision to euthanize that dog is bullshit.

I think Celestia would be a bit better at disguise than Luna.

A tragic story, I'm gonna be depressed all night now.

I agree from comments on there that the stipulations sound a little suspicious and as if they already killed the poor dog in advance and are now trying badly to cover it up.

@Kegisak. no. The dog is being euthanized because of a local ordinance that states that all dogs that seem to look like pitbulls should be euthanized.

This is paraphrased but the bullshit is accurate.

Yeah, just because it resembles an illegal breed...it's to be put on.

Everyone boycott my city. Hit them where it hurts...their pockets.

Wait, so...

So...

So...

What the FLYING TWO-WAYS FUCK?!

It's being killed because of how it LOOKS? Because it happens to LOOK - not BE, just LOOK - like a specific breed, which isn't necessarily aggressive and can actually be among the friendliest and most stable breeds of dog when raised right?

What the fuuuuuuuuuuuuck!?

Rewatching the sneaking clip from Its About Time, I just noticed that Pinkie was actually on the wrong side of the banner. She was in plain sight! More fuel for the theory that the guards were intentionally ignoring them.

Re: Parenthetical clauses.

Fallout Equestria does it like this:

Whinnying, we all halted again. (Interesting fact about traveling single-file: if one pony stops, unless they’re at the back, travel tends to stop with them.) I found myself staring at a ruined billboard whose bottle of Sparkle~Cola RAD seemed to actually glow. (“It’s like a buck to the face! With radishes!”) Billboards littered the sky along the Luna Line like weeds.

Unless I'm mistaken, it should be like this:

Second sentence should go like this.

So the problem is that hte periods were put in the wrong place? That's an easy thing to mess up since the rules seem unatural.

Those aren't horrible, because I can at least parse it in the way the author intended. I can't do that when parenthetical clauses are used dialog, though. Parenthesis have no phonetic meaning, unlike other forms of punctuation. Are they an aside? Are they whispering the line? Do they just denote a longer than usual pause like a dash would? Hell if I know.

Can we please not derail the thread to be about the dog thing? I fully agree that it's tragic and the city council is stone-cold stupid for passing it, but it had absolutely nothing to do with anything on this thread, and it's probably going to devolve into political complaining really quickly. I know we derail a lot, but at least we're usually at least talking about something that's at least tangentially related to previous conversation.

@Story: My headcanon is that when Twilight went to school there, she snuck into the forbidden wing on a regular basis. The guards knew all the time, but just didn't care because Celestia told them to let her in. Twilight still hasn't caught on that Celestia just doesn't give a crap.

@Pannic: My main question is why they bothered with parenthesis at all when they could have easily worked it into the narration. I get it if it were a third person narrator, but in first person it just seems odd.

Thing is, it should go inside the period because the clause is referring to something in that sentence. Otherwise you got some weird island thing that's technically part of the next sentence despite not being related.

Not to trivialize the point or anything but that is a horrendously common mistake there (Really it is). Not a single american high school system teaches the proper punctuation and method of using () parenthesis.

@Story In my theory guards know that Twilight is little weird and know that better ignore her behavior and not mess with somepony that status.

[up][up]Mine did...

I think it's just that most people don't really use parentheses enough to bother learning the rules.

@Steve No, they all do. It's just that the average student hardly ever has cause to use them, so they just forget.
