The issue with telepathy is that it has potential to be straight up mind reading, which probably makes it either very difficult, very illegal, or both. Even if there was a perfectly safe message sending spell, extrapolating a mind reading spell or even something even more sinister like a subconscious suggestion spell from it wouldn't be too farfetched. And that's not even going in to issues such as the effective ranges of a telepathy spell, and other issues of practicality.

Why is this so funny?
If you stare into the abyss long enough, it stares into you.

Element of Indecision.

Ha, I'm amused by that dance thing [lol]

Also discovered METAL and Country arranges of Dead or Alive's You Spin Me Around.

Anyways, ponies already have a kind of magic message-teleport spell and the telegram.

Celestia knows one, which is how she taught Spike to send messages by dragonfire fax.

Telegrams show up in Family Appreciation Day :P

@Ace That's a dragon spell, or at the very least requires a dragon's magic to operate, and appears to only have a 1-1 sender-receiver relationship, making it impractical for mass communication.

Telegrams make sense, though, considering the technology level, so no argument there.

[down]Word Of God is that no, only Twilight got a dragon, IIRC.

So does that mean that all successful applicants to Celestia's school get a dragon? Or is the entry exam different every time?

Good morning pony-bros. On the subject of communication, I think that Equestria is close to or at the level of modern-day human civilization when it comes to technology, but Ponyvillians just prefer to live simply, and we haven't seen any privately-owned homes in Canterlot, so yeah.

@Gex: it's more like most ponies live with pre-Industrial Revolution tech because modern technology is expensive without extensive mechanization and mass-production. That being said, they're much more hygienic than humans [lol]

[up][up] I doubt the pony tech level is human level advanced, since the magic and natural skills the 3 races have makes technological progress entirely for leisure, instead of survival like most human low to mid level tech, bar perhaps technology involved in building, or medical care, since there doesn't seem to be healing based magic. I don't think they would therefore progress as fast in most areas.

So that would explain DJ turntables, sound equipment and arcade machines.

I wonder how pony metallurgy is like? Have they discovered the advanced steel and aluminium alloys we have? Also, do they have Titanium White, or are they stuck with the toxic Arsenic White (This one is a paint thing)?

There is one think I don't get. They have Arcade cabinets, but no T Vs? even if would only be able to do cartoons, I don't see why they are stuck with projectors...
