^^Episode 4, which will be airing on the 22nd, will feature Luna trying to show her subjects that they shouldn't be afraid of her. On Nightmare Night, Equestria's equivalent of Halloween.

I'm not too worried about the upcoming episode. It probably will have that sort of "Oh, I guess I didn't need to worry", but still it's a kid's show and we shouldn't take it too seriously. As long as the main part of the episode is entertaining, I don't really care to much about how the moral gets worded.

It's a little different with those two though. Since they're characters who became loved mainly due to fanon interpretation. If their actual characterization isn't up to par with the fandom's consensus, then there'll be a lot of unnecesary shit spawning from this

^My best guess is either that she goes overboard trying to get into the spirit of things and makes it actually scary, or if she's trying not to be scary, she ends up doing it anyway.

Honestly, there's a lot of fanon interpretation for most of the characters. Look at Celestia or Pinkie Pie.

How many characters are made up ENTIRELY of fanon though? Celestia and Pinkie have canon personalities, Luna doesn't. She was a blank canvas left by Faust that many of us took as our own. Now they're coming to wipe that slate clean, and create a proper personality for her.

I agree, it won't be that bad, but we should still be cautious

I think they know better than to let a name like that slip into airing. Ditzy is more likely to be used in show, even if Derpy is used for story boarding.

Why should we be cautious? Idiots who think they direct the show through fanart or fics will be the only ones throwing a fit.

So what if Luna gets a canon personality? The fanon wont just disappear, it will stay there as Alternative Character Interpretation. Just like how Twilight and Trixie supposedly engage in Foe Yay, Celestia being a sex offender and Pinkie a crazed cannibal.

(Wow, didn't think I'd get the word "interpretation" right on the first try...)

Ohgod the Optimus vid. Plud Optimud used the Gurren Lagann method of surface-to-air combat, namely running over a hill like fucking crazy and jumping lethally high in order to freaking kick the flying cowards in the face. Well, the Lagann version was a tad more showy:

Not only is "Ditzy" more likely to be used in show, it already has! "Derpy" was nowhere to be seen when Rainbow Dash was told that Ditzy Doo went north for the southern birds!

Jayson Thiessen has said they use the name "Derpy" in the office, and the allegedly leaked storyboard image flat out says "Derpy" in the notes. I still doubt they'll use that in show, the names have to be approved by Hasbro ("it passed legal") and would "Derpy Hooves" really pass legal?

Of course fanon Luna will still exist, and those sickeningly sweet (though excellently drawn) "Woona" comics will still exist. But it will be nice to see canon Luna.
