@Story The ironic thing with that is that I actually have to do that all the time in Objective-C, not because it won't let me use self in a block, but because blocks in Objective-C automatically retain any variables inside of them on initialization. If the block is persistent and I don't special case the pointer to self to not be retained, it never releases the object as long as the block persists (possibly leading to retain loops in the process), causing it to leak.

Really though, having to add one line of code to copy $this isn't that big of a pain, and makes sense due to the semantic meaning of $this (which would have no meaning in an anonymous function).

And Whatsthisgame strikes again. The comment section there is quite amusing.

There was no real discussion until Feeling Pinkie Keen. In fact, you'll probably have trouble with most of season 1.

It's true, which is why I'm also recording other semi-significant events. like the first mention of Cupcakes in the thread or the reveal of E25 being called Party of One and the speculation that followed.

It doesn't make any sense at global scope. And why can't you use it like an ordinary variable anyway? Anyway, like most things in PHP, it's not an insurmountable obstacle, but it does cause completely unnecessary effort and confusion.

On further thought, I guess it makes sense to have this as a keyword if it's an implicit variable. I think explicit passing is a better paradigm, but I can't fault PHP too much in this case. But the behavior of == is still completely indefensible.

== vs === is rather silly, yeah. I can't see it being rage-inducing, though.

Well, that was fast, but thanks to image savvy EQD readers, we can now read a lot more of that Cadance line.

Here's a cleaned up version.

It appears to say "Cadance and the ponyville ponies."

Cadance visiting Ponyville confirmed?

[up]== compares two variables' exact values, regardless of data type, so (0 == NULL) would be true. === also checks to see if the data type is also the same when comparing, so (0 === NULL) would be false.

I hope Cadence is only in the opening episodes and not the whole season. As much as I like her, she is a really obvious toy advertisement. I would rather see more about the mane 6 than the adventures of Princess Cadence and friends.

In PHP, == causes bugs, and that's it. There's no good reason to ever use it, but since it's a simple built in operator and looks similar to other lanagues, people use it all the time anyway, so it's basically a gratuitous landmine. And like most things in PHP, it will appear to work most of the time, but then cause bugs when you leaast expect it.

@Turtle The whole show is an obvious toy advertisement, mane 6 included. The difference here is that these advertisements are also great characters.

Goodnight Applelight.

[up][up]Not sure if want.

[up]Also, this. As long as they handle the character well, I see no reason for her not to return. Sure, I'm not sure I want her dominating the whole season, but I wouldn't complain if she plays a role in the premier or something.
