There isn't that much to the pet characters anyway, especially since the show is about half anthropomorphic animals anyway. Angel is the only one with noticable personality which is likely the only reason he keeps appearing.

Also, the reason we see so much of Opal and Angel are because we probably see more of Fluttershy and Rarity's houses. We do see Twilight's a lot, but owls are nocturnal, so there aren't many occasions to see... not even gonna try to spell it. Winona probably just runs around the farm at random, and Gummy shows up semi-regularly. Tank never shows up because he probably just chills at RD's house most of the time.

Admitedly Opal appear the odd occasion, usually for Silent Snarker humor like Angel. Generally prominance goes according to anthro qualities, and Angel and Opal are more expressive and anthropomorphic in personality. Gummy also appears as minor comic relief. The rest are mostly just normal animals so there isn't much to use from them (even Owlslicious' episode was nearly entirely from Spike's perspective).

What about an episode revolved around the pets, might be a good way to develop them. Sorta like that Poke Mon episode where they are alone and we get loads of personality establishment from translations of their interaction.

So guys, in the novel I'm writing my protagonists are buying a spell-punk magic golem horse to help them catch up with a thief who has a big head start on them. The horse is made of metal, powered by magic, has a huge horn, and is designed to defend itself and its master in the event of a battle. I am soooooooooooort of considering writing that the golem's maker has inscribed a special symbol on its flank to mark it as his design, as a subtle shout-out to MLP. Does this sound like a good idea or a bad idea? XD

I already put small shout-outs to Firefly and Full Metal Alchemist into my last book but that's because both of those were major direct influences on the writing...

No harm, I say. Especially if it's just a subtle gag.
