Seriously, there is nothing about this episode that isn't awesome. Although I'm not very sure how to feel about Rainbow Dash having caused what is practically the central junction in Equestria's timeline. For one, I felt it was putting too much emphasis on a character that wasn't the protagonist, plus I felt it was a bit inconsistent that here it only took rash competitiveness while years later it would take a friend's near-death to make her do that (but hey, fan's pick). On the other hand, MY GOD WAS THAT AWESOME.

All of it makes me wonder... What happened that Dash's confidence would be so completely shattered afterwards? Did she read Cupcakes or something?

I saw today's episode, I just simply adore Fluttershy's singing. And it turns out my hunch was right, we did see a bit of a family side for the characters(Although they may be in flashbacks). Also I wonder how Applejack's family works. Seeing that she has cousins for oranges, I wonder if she has an uncle lemon who's a complete sourpuss. lol

Seriously, each backstory was full of cute.

Applejack and Pinkie Pie's stories were the most surprising (Amish Ponies? Hilarious!). and fluttershy's song was adorable!

Also, a little extra note. The desing of Twilight's mom is Lauren's original desgin for the pony.

Saw the episode.

The bad: The ending is a little weak. Yeah, we all saw that coming, so the reveal didn't really do much. And it led to a weaksauce Aesop that honestly wasn't needed, IMO.

The good: EVERYTHING ELSE. Holy effing ponies, man. Twilight's bit alone justified the entire episode as far as I'm concerned.
