I read Negima! and from what I've seen, every one of those characters is an actual character in the objective sense. As long as their personality is properly shown in canon, then I don't care how many pages the show has. Similar thing happened with Code Geass (that show has 6 character pages)

^^Let's talk about Gotokuji (from Negima-Other). He makes an appearance during the third arc of Negima, then doesn't show up again until he's shown at the conclusion of the (rather long) fifth arc, where he gets a page or so of speaking time.

Basically, if we go by sheer screen time, several of the background ponies have him beat hooves-down.

Edit: Ah, you edited your post. Like I said, I'm torn on the issue myself, but given the sheer involvement the fandom has in the wider world of this show, it seems wrong to dispense of the background ponies simply because they don't have official recognition.

Well, I didn't miss much when it came to the Best Night Ever episode. Well, I'm out again.

New episode drops October 15th. Apparently, Twilight is unable to find a lesson to send to Celestia.

The main reason that I think we should include the background characters is because the fandom is a very important aspect of how the show is watched. I mean, it's like having a Touhou article that didn't mention any of the fanon. It's not strictly necessary, but if we want to be informative about the show, it would be a disservice not to mention it.

@Red Savant: It's currently at 7 pages, and it broke three times due to size, if I remember correctly.

Where'd you hear that? If that's true, it's a great Lampshade Hanging about how the Aesops of season one got more and more vague and less friendship related.

I guess I just think character pages should be built on objectivity, not fanon. Mentioning a fandom-specific trope is fine as long as there are plenty of canon tropes to go along with it.

Not for shows where fandom have importand role. And it's not like we add tropes to mane tropes page.

I would prefer somethign more epic for next episode but that premise sound fun and interesting.

But TV tropes is about documenting what we can actually see in the work, first and foremost (especially the character pages). Audience reaction is definitely important, but it shouldn't alter the way we look at the work itself. the two elements should remain seperate.

It just one page for few characters and it's not like there are some specific tropes from fanfics.

^^The thing is, it's not audience reaction, it's audience construction. There are not, and never really will be, tropes that apply to particular fanon characters (with the exception of Ditzy, it seems), since the writers seem to treat them as interchangeable. I'm in support of keeping the Background Ponies character page; maybe we can put a big note at the top that explains the whole page is fanon or something. Still, though, that opens issues about what's 'legitimate' fanon, or what constitutes 'widely-accepted'.

I say keep it in way it is. I think those tropes can be there even that ones from fanon what I not accept.

It's like wondering if the SWAT Kats ever realize they live in "Megakat City" or that all the major characters have feline-related names.

This is honestly one of my pet peeves with talking animal shows, but in MLP I don't mind it because the show is inherently silly anyway. "Yeah, we call it Ponyville... because Ponies live here, and its a Village."

"So then what about all the other villages that ponies live in?"

"Ummm, well... they're called Ponyville too!"

It's like complaining about wierd names of cities from Real Life. They may sound weird for non human.

Well, we come up with names like "Butte*

", which certainly isn't any better than the ponies have managed.

There's no village in the world called "Humanville" though.
