He's Discord. Being able to crack a horn-lock keyed to the Sun Queen makes almost no sense, so of course he can do it.

But that whole thing makes sense, so that couldn't possibly be what really happened.

^^Then he didn't unlock it, he just went around.

Alternately, he can't crack the lock; he just did what would cause the most strife, that being the disruption of the Bearers of Harmony. As the embodiment of discord, it was within his power to misplace the Elements, even if he couldn't get through the lock.

^I'd guess that he can do anything as long as it's chaotic. For instance, even the rapidfire sun/moon cycles in "Return of Harmony" didn't last the same length of time every time; he might actually be physically unable to do anything orderly. Of course, this is applying Character Alignment to his motivation/abilities, which I'm not sure I can do.

I'd say this is one of those rare times where his Allignment IS completely obvious and non-subjective

He refers to HIMSELF as being 100% Chaotic, and he's definitely evil.

^I know, I know. My question is really more along the lines of whether it's appropriate to treat him as an Avatar of Chaos when it comes to being able to do anything as long as it's Chaotic and being banned from doing anything Lawful (or orderly).

Well, he at least seems capable of planning things, so I'm not sure if he's incapable of being orderly. Maybe he can be orderly, as long as the result is chaotic?

Or because it makes no sense for someone like him to be orderly, he can be, just BECAUSE it makes no sense

Most likely, he can plan, but only to increase the amount of chaos. Sort of like the second law of thermodynamics allows a temporal decrease in entropy in an area as long as theres a greater increase in entropy in the system as a whole.

True. It's more like he's a specific type of chaos. As in chaos that makes life more unpleasant yet isn't actually lethal.

EDIT: Which is why he's called "Discord" rather than "Chaos".

^Celestia herself might not be stronger than Discord; she can set up a strongroom that's stronger than him with the help of magical components like the horn-lock, but how is she supposed to fight her stained-glass windows?

On a wide scale, did it really?

I'll concede the fact that he broke up the main six. But aside from that, Big Mag became a dog, and Granny Smith became a heck of a dancer. (And who knows what happened to everyone else.) They weren't showing discord, they just went completely bonkers.

Yes, being able to make a Discord-proof room isn't the same as being able to beat him in a fight.

I guess there's also the fact that Celestia didn't KNOW that her lock actually worked (if that's what happened). Based on what we saw, it must've looked to her like Discord did manage to break it.

Discord tricked her into thinking that she was weaker than him!
