@Blue I got used to the grimdarkness a long time ago.

Sometimes Somber seems to lapse into doing things that are pointlessly mean spirited and feel contrived, though. (the gassing of 400 ponies by the mane character being probably the worst)

but 95% of the time, there's just enough humour (not dark) and pleasantness to keep up an undercurrent of hopefulness.

all YMMV of course

yes they would need to be fixed by aneditor before publishing, but the overall story, the big emotinal journey, THAT is what is so amazing the little details can be fix'd easily.
Okay, I can totally buy that. Just don't say "it's only comparable to sex" or "it's actually worth it unlike a lot of so-called classic literature" or go onto Wikipedia sticking it in places it doesn't belong.

@Kuroi: Duly noted.

@Seraphem: You should just note that claims about how awesome the story is are every bit as YMMV as claims about how bad it is. Some of your posts can easily be interpreted as "this story is obviously awesome but some people don't get it" when it's really more "whether the story is awesome or not depends on the individual". I certainly admit that it's very well written and complexity of the plot is well handled, but I've read lots of other less elaborate stories that I found far more entertaining.

And yeah, I've seen people claim, completely unironically, that it's the best work of literature ever. Which...no. That claim cannot be true because it's entirely subjective, and at the same time, an enormous amount of the story's quality comes from the source material and giving the story itself credit for that just seems out of place. It can certainly be their favorite story ever, but trying to claim that it's the best overall is overkill.

well..that would depend on your views on sex [lol][lol][lol] but yeah it's good but not THAT good. And a lot of 'classical literature' can be a bit "Why the hell is this so liked" to people, but still it's all YMMV. not saying it's one of the greatest works of fiction EVER just that it's better then a WHOLE lot of the schlock out there.

@Bluespade: I would dispute your statements about SEED (especially on the characters), but a good chunk of that is admittedly my inner UC fanboy talking, so I won't.

Still, after all of that part of me kind of hopes that SEED Destiny is as bad as it's reputation implies.

You really need to remember to set your post to go to the RP.

I do, but I accidently sent it to the wrong thread that time. Most of my posts go in the right place though.

I do personally believe that pretty much any concept, any story can be a success if it's done well, so I often force myself to give things a try even if I don't like its merits on paper. I used to be completely uninterested in Urban Fantasy, for instance, until I read the Dresden Files. But in general I get tired of dark stuff, pretty much everything is dark nowadays.

Well, good. I now feel less like bitching about shit.

Funnily enough, I've been thinking of doing my own spinoff, buuuuut my potential audience is probably gonna be pre-conditioned against it.

Thank god I was able to get used to Goldenbl-

Spike: "He was like a father to me."

-ALMOST get used to Goldenblood. Yup. He's still got a long way to go. It depends on what he's doing in the chapter I guess

@Mio: I think the characters are good ideas, but they were written poorly, is what I'm saying. Not all of them of course, some of them were kind of pointless and the main villain was a huge mess of cliches and bizarre motives. As for SEED Destiny, it's just boring. It's basically just a rehash of the first series with even less good characters and all of the original cast acting very out of character. I stopped watching when an episode was entirely devoted to rehashing the exact same fight as the previous episode, right down to the minute details.

[up] Talkin bout fanfiction.

Fallout Equestria again. And Seraphem and I actually agree on something for once!

I think part of the reason is because Eliezer actually does spend ages drafting and editing it. Of course the downside is horribly slow updates.

That Harry Potter thing sounds like an interesting idea to me but there's a bunch of little things I've read about it that I think I just could not stand. And it kind of seems like it would have worked better if he'd just changed character names and setting details and fleshed it out into an original work.

Say, what type of ending would call an ending where everyone on earth dies but thanks to the main characters the world is remade full of new life?
