Don't send a full diplomatic envoy to one random dragon. That would let the dragons know that they're really important. Instead send a seemingly random group of ponies thus implying the dragons are unimportant.

I think if Celestia recognizes the dragons as equals, they'll get greedy and start demanding land or something diplomatic like that. It's their nature.

@Ginger: I would almost consider that callous of her to think that such a thing was no big deal, considering that just him sleeping there would have done massive ecologic damage.

@Badwolfwho: It does seems doubtful that any dragon would take any of the ponies seriously, even the Princesses.

@Bad The dragons don't appear to know/care. At least, those teenage dragons in Dragon Quest certainly didn't. To them, Celestia was just a "namby pamby pony princess."

@ Lurker: And to Rainbow a dragon is something you can deal with by kicking it in the face. Doesn't mean that every pony is dismissive of every dragon.

I do wonder HOW powerful dragons can get. Are they just ignorant and prideful? Or do they have a honest reason to not care about the Princesses?

My theory is that those dragons were teenagers that don't know any better. The older ones, especially those around for Luna's fall, do know better.

None of the ones we've seen so far seem to be as powerful as the Princesses, but I wouldn't doubt the possibility of impossibly ancient dragons as powerful as the Princesses are.

I remember reading a fic about one of the most powerful dragons invading Equestria with his seven sons, each of which were extremely powerful as well. Celestia killed them all except for the two that backed down who she let go with the condition that they tell the other dragons that Equestria is to be left alone.

@Mio I think because most dragons have spice themed names (Basil, that green one whose name escapes me).

@bad Yeah, I think so. Basil wasn't even canon, but it was the name of a G1 dragon IIRC, so people just used that.

@ginger You could always take the easy route and mash some Greek/Latin roots together. This
