I wouldn't sing Popular anyway. I'd probably sing The Wizard and I or something like that. Or something from a completely different play, like a song from War Horse.
Tick Tock, goes the clock/ He cradled and he rocked her/ Tick Tock, goes the clock/Till River kills the Doctor.

@Pannic What about The Prayer? I always heard that was pretty overdone

When you say popular there is only one song I think of.

Audition pieces I've used before are:

  • Ol' Man River (from Show Boat)
  • O Better Far to Live and Die (from The Pirates of Penzance)
  • Meditation (from Shenandoah)
  • Wanderin' Star (from Paint Your Wagon)
  • Everybody Says Don't (from Anyone Can Whistle)
  • Unworthy of Your Love (from Assassins)

The Prayer? From Quest for Camelot? I'm referring to actual musical theatre songs, not pop songs played over a cartoon. Those don't tend to get done at auditions in general.

Anyway, food time.

My favourite songs tend to be the ones with lots of emotions in them - solo's, usually from around the end of an act or so. Colehouse's Soliloquy, for example. though if, by some freak chance of fate I should happen to be auditioning, I doubt I'd use it. Given that the version I'd heard is sung by Brian Stokes Mitchell I imagine it's written for a bass part.

My personal favorite audition song I've done has been "If I Were a Rich Man" from Fiddler on the Roof. I'm a bass, and I wanted to show that off while also singing a song with character that I could be a little animated in.

Hey has anyone else played The Sims 2? You should name your Cowplants Audrey II.

Having never auditioned for anything in his life and having not seen enough musicals... I can't contribute much. sad

@Lurker Fiddler on the Roof, you say...

*grabs a piece of cloth and places it on his head like a shawl*

Hodel, oh, Hodel, have I made a match for you

He's handsome! He's young! Alright, he's 62.

But he's a nice man, a good catch, true? True!

I promise you'll be happy, and even if you're not,

There's more to life than that. Don't ask me what.

He'll beat you, but only when he's sober, so you'll be all right.

Also, I sang that song because I'd never get a chance to in a real production of that show. I don't have the necessary... girth to play Tevye.

[up][up]The parts I remember from that are:

He's handsome, he's tall! That is from side-to-side.

But he's a nice man, a good catch, right? Right.

You heard he has a temper! He'll beat you every night!

But only when he's sober...

SO YOU'RE ALL RIGHT

Interesting Times was funny because the old dynastic empire on the Central Plains could create really hilariously over-the-top customs. I'm certain Terry didn't need to make much of it up [lol]

Hey I wonder how Ginger would like Interesting Times. Though he probably wouldn't, since despite the villian being badass, the heroes win pretty much instantly.
