Yeah, I'm already bracing myself for the inevitable complaints. I'm personally chill with whatever they go with, as long as it isn't annoying.
There aren't any characters that I hate, although I'm not a big fan of Gilda. Or Blueblood, but you're supposed to hate him.
Heck, I agree with you. I don't even hate Discord as a character (how could you not?), even if he WAS put in a story that had a rushed ending.

I just realized that the Discord footage would be very fitting for a PMV of 'Slipping' from Dr. Horrible. If only I had any skill at video editing.

I'm looking forward to the Luna episode, solely because we might get some elaboration on what exactly happened all those years ago. I'll be fine with whatever characterization they come up with, so long as they do it well.

^^That's fantastic.
Yeah, they won't be able to please everyone with Luna... at this point, the thing I'm most anxious about, though, is a potential Gilda redemption episode, because that would pretty much step on all my toes and I'd never get Gryphon done after that.

Uhh, why do you hate Trixie?
And someone like Discord would be entirely detestable if not for his silliness and Q's voice.

^Discord had the potential to be a very, very scary villain. If he weren't It Amused Me personified, he could have done some major, lasting damage to both Equestria and the girls.

The only characters I can't stand are Snips and Snails, because (a) their names break trend by being throwaways for a bad joke, and (b) they're annoying as all get out.
I mean, I enjoyed Bulk and Skull, but even I can't find any appeal in S&S.

I never cared for them, myself; the one episode they were relevant to involved them almost getting Ponyville destroyed and they got rewarded with mustaches.

I never cared much for Snips and Snails, either. I completely understand the need for Those Two Guys, but they're the only colts we've seen in the entire series... and they're not exactly shining paragons of their sex.

Yeah, and the Cutie Mark Crusaders never get in trouble and are always good. I'd also argue what Luna did was worse. Everyone is easily forgiven because it's a kids' show.

People whine about these two little pony boys NOT REPRESENTING MALES GOOD ENOUGH!1 But the CMC's aren't exactly giving girls a good name. But it's all good because they are kids who make mistakes and learn from them. Maybe more good is shown in the CMC's but they are more central characters.
So I don't get the whine. Does EVERYTHING have to be about men?
Edit—oh fuck I had the worst thought ever but it's nerdy. Anyone read The Outsiders? Because the main character was named Ponyboy. Now I'm imagining him in a 21st century setting discovering this series DDDDDDDDDDD:

Dude, the rest of the main cast makes up for the CMC's. I think people are complaining about the fact that those two guys are pretty much half the male cast.

And? Most male-oriented shows have mostly male characters.

^I wonder if going the other direction is any healthier, though. Yes, most entertainment in our society is male-default (even in cartoons, male characters are the 'leaders' and the main characters) and it's considered more profitable to make 'boys' cartoons' and pick up a significant female periphery than to make 'girls' cartoons'. Going the other way feels like avoiding the issue, though, at best - and viewed in the worst possible light, as 'girls can't lead unless there are no men around'. It's a toxic dynamic for sure, and there's no way to win in it for the most part.
(Is a colt without buck teeth too much to ask for? I really think a colt of the same age as the Crusaders would be cute. The fillies are adorable, after all.)

I think they are about the same age. Fluttershy was taller than the other fillies after all. FLUTTASHY IS SNAILS'S MOTHER. I don't know about the buck teeth, but Word of Faust said somewhere that she wanted the difference in appearance so they can contrast each other. There was a shot of the bullies as colts. They were pretty adorable, I'll admit. Mean, but adorable. Like Diamond Tiara and Silver Spoon.

I'd be happy with just a more healthy balance of background ponies. Like someone said, there's a huge imbalance in the ratio between males and females in Equestria (It's ok in Appleoosa though)
Makes me wonder if Big Mac would've always become a Memetic Sex God, or if that's just due to a lack of other male characters

Anyone read The Outsiders? Because the main character was named Ponyboy
Funny you should mention that - when my friend found out I watched the show, he started calling me pony-boy(also in part because I wear a ponytail while I'm working), and my response was "Well, I don't wear denim or grease my hair, so I don't know what you're talking about."
His response? "Holy crap, I can't believe someone actually remembers that book".
