By the way, do you think Prince Blueblood will make an appearance in the third season? I know he was a total Jerkass, but he would make an interesting antagonist, I think.

Luna's speech was closer to middle english, Theirs was likely old english or proto-english. Basically, compare Shakespear(middle english) to Geoffry Chaucer(old english).

@ Apple: Specifically, I'd say Unicorns, Earth Ponies and Pegasi would each have their own language and there might also be a trade language.

It all depends on the origins of the species and how long it was between the first Hearth's Warming Eve and when Luna was banished.

@kegi I thought Shakespeare was Early Modern English.

I'd guess Luna was sealed in the Moon when they were speaking Middle English and the Hearth's Warming Eve Ponies were speaking Old English.

Well, I felt that the Fridge Horror of the Want-It-Need-It spell was actually resolved with the introduction of Cadance. She had a large influence on Twilight when she was young, and it would make sense that Twilight would try to imitate her signature spell, but be unable to actually do it. Of course, everything's headcanon at this point.

If the three tribes had their own languages, I wonder what real life counterparts we could use to represent them.

The E Ps could use a Gaeilge language...or maybe old German like the Anglo-Saxons...or even Viking Danish.

The Unicorns could use old French...or Latin.

And Greek for the Pegasi?
