@Ginger Not really. It's deterministic, meaning that if you perform the same spell under the same conditions, it will produce the same result every time. Because of that, it can be studied and analyzed with the scientific method. New energy sources are simply more variables to test. Do you want to know whether familial love is as strong as romantic love? In our world, that's philosophy, but in theirs, they can actually quantify it with experiments!

While I'm sure that's possible, there are certainly moral implications of going around quantifying love and telling Couple A that their love isn't as strong as Couple B.

@Lrker Why do I get the feeling that Twi would do that after discovering such a method of measuring love? Not out of dickishness, but out of giddiness that she managed to create something like that. She unintentionally starts hurting ponies' feelings. (I imagine she'd scan the cakes at some point and say that their love is beginning to wane or something, prompting the two to go all out to rekindle their feelings for each other)
