Yeah I think there's a couple. You mentioned a dislike of a lack of overarching villains, well from about half way through the second disc it's about all one arc of a one group of villains.

@ ginger there is a difference between Villain Antagonist, and just being a straight asshole.

x9 No he fucking isn't. At least when Theseus killed people it was maniacs who were populating a road. When Heracles killed people they tended to be on accident, part of a Task, or because Hera was fucking with his head. Greek heroes at least have admirable or heroic qualities, and tend to have a fairly decent saving-to-murder ratio.

The whole "well he's just like traditional Greek mythology" shtick doesn't really hold up, given the way the franchise tends to play fast and loose with mythology (Hera doesn't have shit to do with plants). Kratos has things in common with Greek heroes and can be seen as a Deconstruction, but saying "he's just like them" is an irritating oversimplification when he is, in fact, just a colossal dick.
