It's a psychological thing. I'm not attracted to ponies, but (obviously) I'm attracted to humans. The problem is that I see the humanized characters as the same characters as their normal forms, creating a kind of recursive furry-aversion.

And you might not believe me...but I used to be exactly the same...mixed with an aversion of being attratched to kid's cartoon characters.
