Well, she's the fashion pony. But she's never been written as a character primarily concerned with shopping. She's a designer. She's artsy.
Why Does Tyn Not Approve?
The first thing we do, let's ban all the Fanwork Bans.
She's like every other character, her cliche traits are exagerrated for use with gags or defining flaws, but she has lots of other complex traits to balance it out.
@what: the first hat is obviously superior.

Deep space is my dwelling place,

AJ: Whose laughing now? I got my hat.
Rarity is my favorite pony, even though I carry Pinkie Pie around in my pocket sometimes. I swear its so I can put her in peril and take pictures of it...

Rarity wasn't trying to please everyone when she was making the dresses. She was making the dresses that she thought would be best for them to wear. It's when she started compromising her artistic vision to please them that she ran into problems. Both sides were wrong on some level, and both sides learned from the experience.

@Blissey Actually, pulling things like that is a general pegasus ability, like walking on clouds and manipulating the weather.
Pegasi seem to have a bubble of magic that helps them fly, which extends to objects they are pulling or carrying.

@Lurker So... accepting criticism from those who you're expecting to use your product is bad?

"Contests fought between two masters are decided instantly. An invisible battle is now raging between the two of them." Lulu vs Schneizel
There was a pegasi pulled cart in the very first episode.
