Welp, I'm going to see Snow White and the Huntsman in a little while

Is it as much of a Twilight cashin as it looks like?

Wow, the thread just died again. Anyway, Blissey, I never noticed the thing about Spike standing on ice.

@story

Almost no focus on ANY kind of romance. A badass villain, and action scenes that are actually fun says to me that "no, it isn't" waii

and now for something none of ou may have thought you would ever see

Nooo, why have you abandoned us? Now only Perpetual Lurker is left. Well, I guess changing your avatar is justifiable if it's a pony avatar. Just don't go changing it again.

Also, I watched the Super Best Friends clip. Superman looks like a Powerpuff Girls character.

[up]They all look like PPG characters.

I keep imagining that episode with MLPFIM characters.

It was more how broken the damn thing looked after all the ponies cheerfully rooted for Tank, seemed like a huge Yank the Dog's Chain. Oh well, Fluttershy looks after it I guess.

Personally, I think the bat should have won.

Also, Ginger, needless? I was just making an observation. How else would you explain it?

And I think it was more of a "sometimes, you have to trust your own instincts (or the good judgment of others)" thing.

Twilight specifically says the "try to please everyone, you'll end up pleasing none" thing in the end in her note to celestia though. And also the don't look a giftpony in the mouth thing.

From what I heard Rarity actually had a Scrappy status before this episode. I can see this as a defining moment of her kind aspects and such, but I didn't think she was anywhere near that bad before.

Well I don't know about people watching the episodes in order, but the first Rarity episode I saw was Sonic Rainboom, so I didn't think too highly of her.

"Dear Princess Celestia, This week, my very talented friend Rarity learned that if you try to please everypony, you oftentimes end up pleasing nopony, especially yourself. And I learned this. When somepony offers to do you a favor like making you a beautiful dress, you shouldn’t be overly critical of something generously given to you. In other words, you shouldn’t look a gift horse in the mouth."
I always thought that part of the lesson was more that if you try to listen to what everybody says, it doesn't end well and nobody gets satisfied.

[down]When I first started watching the series, I remember seeing a lot of Rarity dislike.

I never heard about Rarity being that disliked.

Well Rarity got even better episodes in season 2.

oh, and on a smaller note, I actually thought Applejacks version of her dress looked better than Rarity's...

I liked Rarity since first episdoe. She always was last from Mane 6 but there wasn't any hate toward her.

Ah here's the comment; the Rescued from the Scrappy Heap comment:

"Many people admit to hating Rarity early into the show, since she comes off as dim, shallow, arrogant and useless - in other words, typical Rich Bitch, the very stereotype she is designed to subvert. It's not until a bunch of episodes, starting with "Suited for Success", came out, giving her a lot of screen time, massive Character Development, and actually living up to her element more often that they started warming up to her."

It's odd as I actually thought Rarity had more Jerk moments later on, if balanced by lots of altrustic ones, similar to RD really. All in all however I don't think there was ever a point I thought she sucked, she's one of those 'not my fave but likeable' types to me.

It was! It wasn't too busy like everyone else personalized versions! Hoity Poity or w/e his name was was spot on with the kitchen sink comment, except for Applejacks dress!

YMMV need to be improved. It list any character who have some small number of hater as Base Braker or Scrappy, while Ensemble Darkpony have more strict criteria.

Not to mention that page still ignore target audience.

Applejack's definitely had that 'Everything's bigger in Texas' style to it.

They all make cool fancy dresses though.grin

I could have sworn that I saw (and still see) plenty of "Rarity is worst pony" comments. One clueless brony actually said "all she cares about is shopping and makeovers" or something like that.

...what. Look, I can get not liking a character. But that wasn't anywhere near accurate.

I liked Pinkie's fancy dress the most. It's the hat.

It's fully a taste thing I guess, so I'm not going to try and convince you, but you also have to look at it differently. The dresses were being designed for the Grand Galloping Gala. It really would have been insane to wear something like that to an event like that.
AJ's was...okay...for normal hometown stuff, but in Canterlot, it wouldn't fly.*

I can sometimes see that ethic with her, but it's balanced with it being "all she cares about is shopping and makeovers with her friends". The show actually seems to be very careful with Pet the Dog moments with her. I think with the wrong direction, Ponyville Confidential could have easily made her a Scrappy, instead a lot of fans insist she was the only pony they could stand in that episode.

I actually like how they balance her materialism, as in she's not overcharitable or too selfish and greedy. She's just kind of materialistic. This is an odd complexity but it can be seen as realistic in cases (ever had that one rich friend/relative you struggle to get a good Xmas gift for?).

Night Freeman.
