Imprisonment only seems to be an option for those who have a weaker connection to the elements (like Celestia given her track record)

Why would the blast do anything other than destroy him? He's the embodiment of everything the elements despise. Maybe there's something like the morphing grid going on, and there needs to be a balance of harmony and Disharmony in the world?

I'm probably biased by wanting Discord to survive to show up in future episodes, but I just don't think the elements work that way. I could see them not working properly when Celestia had to use them on Nightmare Moon, but there's no reason to suppose she and Luna had a problem using them the first time they sealed Discord.

Actually, now I'm wondering how much control the users have over the elements. Do they just have the one rainbow beam o' doom that they use, or can Twilight dictate what happens? And can the individual elements be used separately for anything? Like could AJ use the element of honesty as a lie detector or something?

I was thinking of the line: "You 6 showed the true potential of the elements"

To me that seems to be hinting that the mane 6 used them to a level that neither Luna nor Celestia could. That's why I think:

Low level synchronization = Imprisonment spells

High level synchronization = Purification spells and others

That's why I'm not sure what they'll do to Discord. Depowering him might work, because if my theory about a balance between Disharmony and harmony is correct, then Discord is definitely an imbalance in that equation

Actually, the best way to even things up would be to take Discord's powers and create something like the Elements of Discord.

Okay, that's a fair point. And I guess the fact that they essentially snatched control of the elements away from Celestia shows that they're more suited to them.

One day I was at the shopping mall, and there was this awesome groove, and I started sorta quietly bustin a move where nobody was lookin... and then the chorus breaks in "NEVER SAY NEVEEEER". So I was like: this is Bieber. I liked it. Shock.

I resolved the cognitive dissonance by becoming a Belieber then and there. (I use the same approach for about near anything: never be ashamed of liking what you like... but if you find out you like to do evil stuff, refrain from doing it, for others' sake).

on an earlier topic, maybe Discord's mere presence was enough to get the CMC fighting because as children, they aren't able to resist his influence. plus the Mane Six and Celestia probably ow their immunity to being representatives of elements and a goddess respectively.

His influence WAS affecting them, but their connection to the elements gave them a certain level of resistance, enough to not break out fighting at the drop of a hat. His natural debuffer probably made their minds weaker and more susceptible to manipulation.

I know it probably wouldn't actually work that well in the show, but based on the Rock/Rarity images that are popping up, I'm currently halfway hoping we actually get a guest appearance by The Rock right now. Possibly as a character that could theoretically work as the prince type Rarity was hoping for vs. the one she got in Blueblood.

Again, given that it's based on a bad image joke that keeps popping up, it's probably best if it didn't ever go beyond a halfway thought out joke wish.
