I didn't want it to be Celestia's fault, I just wanted Discord to be justified. He's such a cool guy, it's hard not to want him to win.

I love Discord BECAUSE he's so simple. In my mind he doesn't NEED to be justified. Just let him do his thing

If he's justified, he has reason to stay on the show. Sure, a simplistic villain is cool, but they get old after a while. But, I've been assuming that Discord gets taken out somehow, because John De Lancie mentioned asking the producers if they could bring back Discord.

I like this

backstory.

But really, Discord is what he is. The fact that there's no real motivation there other than "for the lulz" is part of what makes him so effective.

also, he seems kinda pissed at being encased in stone for a 1000 years. That's at least an understandable motive for why he's so angry NOW

He doesn't need to be justified to stay on the show. The idea I've always supported is that the elements will depower him, so that he can appear in the future either trying to get power back, or grudgingly working with the ponies to deal with some other threat.

Does he need reason to stay around besides "It's fun?" It sure as heck why Joker in B:TAS hung around and I had no problem with that. I just can't help but like a villain that enjoys themseves, depth be damned.

If he does get depowered then that's truly a testament to how badass he is. It shows that there's absolutely NO good in him, but also that he was too strong for the Almighty elements to completely destroy.

I don't know if destruction is even the element's thing. Granted, we've only seen them used once, so its hard to say, but even the other times we've heard of they go for imprisonment over outright killing their enemy.

Discord's expression in the last panel kills me.

I can see that. He finds it hard to have fun while mortal, and realizes the only way he has a chance of powers again is working with the Mane 6. The only problem is, he probably realizes he'll never get his powers back. So why would he bother in the first place?
