Ahh, Atop the Fourth Wall. I stopped watching because he's too whiny and yells too much.

And he is not nearly as good of a singer as he thinks he is.

I'm an optimist. Which is probably why Humans Are Bastards annoys me so much.

@ginger: Come on, you may not enjoy it, but is it really that hard to see why some people do? Its escapism. This is the kind of stuff people wish they could do. When you're bored and fantasizing about getting into a fight with ninjas or whatever, you don't picture yourself getting the shit beaten out of you, you imagine yourself kicking ass. Characters pulling off CMO As triggers that "man, I wish I could do that" response.

@ginger But you enjoyed Azula, even though she has The Gift. Was it because of her manipulativeness?

@Ginger Almost all of those don't bother you when applied to villains, and you know it. Kinda of a Double Standard, IMO, but I know why you feel that way.

I agree with Ginger in that it's not satisfying seeing a hero effortlessly pull things off by sheer force of awesome. Though with me I'm more lenient towards heroes who win because of their intelligence, willpower, or morality, rather than the sort of Curb-Stomp Battle you get with the films by that guy who did Equilibrium.

@Sky Mostly I just ignored that part of her character (same with Twi) as often as I could.

Plus, I was more tolerant of it cuz she was a villain

I think Overshadowed by Awesome is alright as long as it's acknowledged in the story.

I might have to go Wiki Walk to dig up tropes I don't like. I'll be back later.

I'm a firm believer in Tropes Are Not Bad, as well as Tropes Are Not Good. Anything can be done well or poorly, so you should take it on a work by work basis.

@Pannic Oh, fucking Kurt Wimmer! -_-

He's on my personal shit list alongside Cameron and Kubrick

He's actually gone on record saying that he dislikes tension, and that he thinks all heroes should win quickly, and easily.

... needless to say, I don't think he and I could EVER be friends. waii

WHAT THE FUCK KIND OF IDEOLOGY IS THAT?!

@Ginger

A... completely valid one? Subjective things are subjective. I disagree with a lot of your opinions just as much as I disagree with his, but I never say that you are wrong outside of encouraging you to try things before deciding you won't like it.

Yeah, that's exactly what I'm talking about, Ginger. Seriously, that's just a recipe for bad storytelling.

Avatar may have been mediocre, but I love Aliens (second best action movie of all time!) too damn much to dislike Cameron.

Kurt Wimmer you say? Let's see what else he's done. *checks IMDB*

Oh shit, he wrote the new Total Recall? Crap, as if I wasn't already worried about that.

What's wrong with Cameron? Most of his movies are amazing.

@Purple I despise Cameron as a person, but not enough for me to hate his movies (Quaritch is too damn badass, man)

KUBRICK! I'm never touhing one of his movies again.

David Cameron seems to claim that he owns the word Avatar. So I dislike him on that basis.

Kubrick was a terrible person. He reduced an actress to tears whilst filming The Shining. Or so I heard.

I haven't heard of Cameron doing anything particularly bad though.

Seriously, Aliens is awesome. Second only to Die Hard in the action genre.

James Cameron is an unpleasant prima donna. A lot of his movies are fantastic however. I don't like Avatar, but I really love the first two Terminator films, and despite it's flaws I think that Titanic is a fine movie.

Kubrick was a bit of an asshole, but thing is he was a perfectionist. Of his films I've only seen Dr. Strangelove and Full Metal Jacket, though.

@Crow Well, on the set of The Abyss he forced one of the actresses to lie there in the freezing cold getting her chest pounded on by a guy's fist for... I'm not sure how long, but they used up ALL their film stock (hours and hours of footage) on that one shot, and he STILL wasn't satisfied. The actress actually walked off set and refused to come back on unless James moved onto another shot.

I like his movies, I just hate HIM

Oh, back on Avatar, fun fact: Stephen Lang, the actor who played Quaritch, played Colonel Jessup in the original stage production of A Few Good Men. Someone needs to approach him at a convention and get him to deliver the "You can't handle the truth!" monologue.

See, this is why I prefer to know nothing about the people who make my entertainment. That's the kind of thing I don't want to be thinking about when I'm trying to enjoy a movie.
