In the stage version, the Judge actually gets an awesome Villain Song.

All I know about the Judge in Sweeney Todd is that the film version is played by Alan Rickman, making him instantly awesome. tongue

Well, y'know how Anthony gets a "Johanna" song, and Sweeney gets a "Johanna" song?

So does the Judge.

I think I would've liked Sweeny Todd a lot more if Sweeny wasn't the protagonist and if the Judge had actually been able to DO stuff. (like find out who Sweeny was BEFORE the scene where he died)

Sweeny was just too competent

@Osias The same way people like any song? Because it sounds good?

[up]Replace Sweeney Todd with ___________, Sweeney with (Protagonist A), and the Judge with (Villain X), and you have Ginger's reason for hating almost everything known to man.

I like villains

So villain songs would instantly be cool.

They sound more powerful and cruel

Well, the movie version did cut a significant portion of the Anthony/Johanna subplot. In the stage version there's a big flashy quartet between Anthony, Johanna, the Judge, and the Beadle.

But if Sweeney wasn't the protagonist, then, well, what? It's a revenge tragedy. That doesn't really work if Sweeney isn't the central character.

And in a lot of ways, Mrs. Lovett is the real villain of the piece. And the real lead. Seriously, she gets more solos than Sweeney does unless I'm mistaken.

Hi, colin. People are repeatedly smashing their heads against brick walls trying to recommend entertainment that Ginger might like.

Villain songs tend to be very big, dramatic, and often occur at a very key point in the story. So they often wind up being the most memorable.

I don't think Ginger would like Assassins, but it's one of my favorites.

Depending on how you define things, it has a lot of villain songs. And a Villain Love Song. And The Villain Sucks Song.

Seriously, even in works that I don't think are very good, I normally remember and love the villain songs (Intelligence, In The Dark Of the Night, Cell Block Tango and My Lullaby come to mind)

I watched that Avatar anime intro, brrr. That was horrible.

Then again, OF COURSE I'm gonna love a villain song called Intelligence

ESPECIALLY since it's sung by Alan Rickman

It's true. It's hard to really explain why, but they just always seem to be the most memorable songs in a work. I mean, everyone loves Hellfire, for example.

But Sondheim might not have a lot of villain songs, but he's so, so awesome at mental breakdown songs. Epiphany, Getting Married Today, Rose's Turn, Franklin Shepard Inc, the entire ending sequence of Follies...

But it's seriously a travesty that Alan Rickman didn't get to sing the Judge's Johanna in the movie.

Aww, why didn't you like Chicago?

@Pannic Okay, to be fair, I haven't SEEN Chicago. So I'm not sure if I'd like it. It doesn't SEEM like the sort of thing I'd like though.

I love Cell Block Tango and Razzle Dazzle though

I can't even begin do describe why this sound so wrong to me.

Razzle Dazzle is great.

Admittedly, it might hit a few of your buttons (you wouldn't like the protagonists). But I feel it gets a bad rap because people are either sore it won the Oscar and/or they don't get the satire.

But seriously, Billy Flynn is an awesome Magnificent Bastard.

Well, I finally managed to watch all the episodes of My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic on YouTube. It took a long time, but it was totally worth it! grin

I want to see a Scootaloo episode. It's not fair that Apple Bloom and Sweetie Belle get so much attention, but not Scootaloo. sad

You know what would make an interesting episode? An episode exploring the concept of Revenge. Yeah, you could have Trixie try to form a team containing antagonists like Gilda, the Diamond Dogs, Prince Blueblood, the Flim Flam Brothers, the group of teenaged dragons, and Iron Will in an attempt to gain revenge on the Mane Six for humiliations (real or perceived) they suffered. Of course, since they're being united in hatred and revenge, their differences and racism will cause it to fall apart. Does that sound interesting?

@Syd: I can tell. Very patient people to do it though.

I don't see how they could possibly not do a Scootaloo episode next season. She's the most popular of the Crusaders, and her lack of focus is pretty conspicuous at this point.
