Perhaps what would have made MDW more workable is if they actually did make the others take to the hero role too much and went with it. They would have learnt the same lesson as RD while at the same time make the latter more sympathetic, showing how easily fame can corrupt someone who initially means well.

@Psi: I think it would have helped a bit more if the MMDW hadn't accepted all the adulation; the entire point was "you can be a hero without having a big head about it", but let's face it, the MMDW kinda did care. If all they did was show up, save the ponies and leave, it would have worked better. Having them talk themselves up and then show up at the MMDW parade thing at the end was a bit much.

Re: hyporcrits in MMDW, no they weren't..they weren't praising what they were doing to make them aselves feel btter or build themselves up, the wern't trying to brag, they were simply showing RD what it's likme when SHE starts doing it.

I think it suffered a bit since compared to most other episodes, one particular character was in the wrong while most other episodes have a kind of grey light and admit some other's actions only worsened things. This made RD look like more of a one note jerk while the others look a bit condescending and smug. As said having them actually get too much into the role may have helped both of them seem more sympathetic, ie. a 'fame corrupts' moral for both sides.
