I wouldn't worry too much about Colbert; pretty much everything he says should be taken with a massive grain of salt. And let's face it; unlike most of us, he probably doesn't spend nearly as much time involving himself with the fandom, so he'd be more freaked out if he ran into the creepy bits.

Your talk of lactating dragons reminds me of one of my favorite fantasy books when I was a kid, The Dragons Of North Chittendon. You should read it if you ever get the chance.

I'm not sure that dragons choosing their gender as is their wont is hot, but it is definitely interesting. It reminds me in some ways of the Gethen.
