The rockdog sounds a bit like he could be related to the diamond dogs (Why are they so intent on mining? To feed their master, perhaps?)

I'd posted in the WMG page for Fi M that Nightmare moon was a separate entity from Luna, capable of manipulating negative emotions, and personally I'd think something like that would make for a pretty good villain. We've accumulated ourselves a few bit villains for it to control, so it's a possibility.

@Hamster: You forgot to mention that Tirek's rainbow of darkness sets the ponies ON FUCKING FIRE before it turns them into monsters.

Also, Tirek's name is spelt "Tirac" on the trope page. Is this a spelling goof?

So is it just me, or is anyone else wondering why it was that Twilight didn't seem to have any idea that Celestia's bird was a Phoenix? Did Celestia get it recently, or had Twlight never seen it before, or what's the deal there?

Twilight might have only seen Philomena at the latter half of her life and death cycle. We have no idea how long these cycles take after all, or how long Twilight's been studying under Celestia.

After reading the list of pony villians again, I do desire a picture of said villians in a Dissidia-like pose, like the one we had with the main ponies. The villians will be walking out of a volcano, natch.

Forgive me if this has been mentioned before (such a long thread), but has anyone here ever tried the game over at the Hub website called "My Little Pony Friendship is Magic: Adventures in Ponyville

" in which you create your own pony and then you can play minigames? I tried it out a while back and even earned a few accessories, but I gave up on because there doesn't seem to be any way to save your progress. None of my friends could find one either. There's a link to register for the site at the top of the page, but it just gives you a "Coming Soon" message. In any case, I saved a copy of the pony I created to Flickr

I love that Princess Celestia has such a sense of humor.

So why does everyone else still act so stiffly formal around her? (Except Pinkie Pie, but then of course, she's Pinkie Pie.)

I do notice that the original series had more villians and some of them were more hardcore than Nightmare Moon. Here's a list of some of them.

Tirek: The first and biggest bad, basically a satan-analogue centaur with a bag of pure evil - it contained a "rainbow of darkness" that would shoot out and corrupt anything it touched, even turning the My Little Ponies into dragon-like monsters. He tried to create an endless night, but a small broken piece of a TRUE "rainbow of light" was enough to destroy him and all his evil forever.

Catrina: Once a pretty nice catwoman/witch, Catrina got hooked on the druglike Witchweed Potion that could turn her into a huge demonic giant that shoots lightning out of her eyes, and cast powerful spells (just like all drugs worth mentioning). She's a slavemaster, forcing people to work in her mines for the ingredients needed to make the stuff, and she's been getting more erratic since it's running low. Eventually she goes too far, and with the help of the ponies and her henchman (actually a friend from the days when she was good) are forced to stop her. Her old friend gets her to kick the habit.

Porcina: a narcissistic magical pig-woman who wanted to admire her own reflection constantly and gained a "midas touch" that turned everything into glass - including terrified ponies (later turned back).

Queen Bumble: a giant queen bee who led an army of giant bees.

Grogar: a goat-like beast who had frickin' lasers that could shoot out of his horns and a magical castle that could teleport between dimensions.

Flores: Evil plants. FEED ME! Crunch the Rockdog: a GIANT emotionless rock bulldog that controlled living boulders and, oh yes, could turn you to stone with a touch. Turned several ponies into terrified looking statues (they got better). If any of them do return, it would be interesting to see what they look like with an updated look.

Don't forget:

Squirk: The gigantic, iron-tentacled tyrant of the underwater realms, who wanted to get his tentacles back on a magical device with which to completely flood the world and add the surface to his domain.

Somnambula:The mind-controlling witch who drained people of their youth to maintain her own.

Arabus: The evil cloud who stole people's souls with the help of the local Michael Jackson pony.

Lavan: The demon king who hijacked all the magic in the world in order to become omnipotent. And surfed on magma as part of his blitzkrieg.
