Yo ho ho and a bottle of fizzy-pop! (Mum won't let me have rum)
yeah Pinkie really is a YMMV thing, I personally have no issue at all with her being a
Looney Tunes at times..as long as she's not used as a
Deus ex Machina.

The fleeting moments where Pinkie actually acts semi-reserved (PYHD and MMDW) are by far my favourite moments featuring her.
Kind, warm and bubbly, not manic and zany

@Lurker Personally, I would be ALL FOR that last one

Because he know I'm going to go out in this plane and I'm going to remove one of His creations from His universe.
The sad thing about CEQ is that the OC character of Lockwood already acts SO MUCH BETTER as comic relief than Pinkie does for this type of story.
Again, though, the rematch was a lot better than Pinkie's first fight (even if it did still anger me enough to make me chip my tooth slightly)

So... how does Pinkie act "semi-reserved" in MMDW?
@Moe it was the tone of her voice. She didn't sound as... zany.
She sounded quieter... calmer... warmer.
that and she was being quietly angry for a long part of the ep.

@Ginger mind if I ask why you think he (Lockwood) is better in that regard?
@Dev For pretty much the same reasons Fluttershy mentioned. Lockwood knows that there's a time and a place to be funny and a time and a place to be serious. He isn't silly and he doesn't perform shtick, he just makes some light-hearted jests (sometimes even at his own expense) here and there to try and help boost morale or diffuse tension

@Perpetual: I think the problem is just that: there's no middle ground for the character. She's either a joke, or she has to have a lot of focus. I think there needs to be a way to keep her as a motivated character even when she isn't the focus of an episode. I think that's a big part of the problem: when she isn't in focus, she usually doesn't have any motivation other than "for the lulz".
Except for PYHD. That was sort of a good middle ground for Pinkie.

@Apple I'll drink to that.

I didn't like how she conned the cherry (I think) salespony out of money but other than that I liked her the whole episode.

Yeah, except for that bit.

Hey I loved that bit in PYHD. more classic gags the likes of which you just don't see anymore.
