To be fair that may have looked like a good CGI recreation of the Care Bears if not for that Uncanny Valley human in the middle of them. Why do they insist on putting a human Audience Surrogate in everything now? Winnie The Pooh. Sonic. And none of them are even a fraction as interesting as the original characters.

At least with Winnie The Pooh the human was always part of the story. With the Care Bears the human is totally gratuitous.

How anyone can choose the other ending is beyond me

Unless what I read was wrong, the bad ending is just what you get if you don't present the right evidence at the end. It's not something you'd just choose.
