I never quite understood the "Dinky is Derpy's daughter" fanon. It more or less came up just because their colors are kinda close and it looks cute, right? IIRC, the crowd scene in TRL actually suggests that Dinky is Carrot Top's daughter, but that's been more or less completely ignored.

@Perpetual: Yeah, but the Derpy is Dinky's mother fanon had been around for so long by that point and was too popular to be replaced. And since Carrot Top is commonly a friend or roommate of Derpy, it isn't hard to just say she was watching Dinky for her.

I know, it's just that most fanon has come from a Funny Background Event or coincidental proximity in crowd scenes, while that particular bit has almost zero basis other than "it's cute". I don't have a problem with it, I just find it weird.

@Perpetual: I think that bit actually originated from Call of the Cutie. Most of the adult ponies at DT's party were presumed to be guardians of the kids present, and since Derpy was there it lead to questions of which kid was hers.

That wasn't Dinky in the alley scene in "A Canterlot Wedding - Part 2", that was the Pegasus filly

who was standing with Derpy in "Hearts and Hooves Day" (when Derpy wasn't standing with Doctor Whooves).

And yeah, the Palette Swap shipping was just a silly idea I had. But as for stuff that'd make a bit of sense, Shoeshine's Trademark Favorite Food seems to be carrots...
