I'm guessing that the grayness is just due to Rule of Perception. It's supposed to be obvious to the audience that the ponies aren't themselves, but Twilight is supposed to not notice. I mean, Discord would kinda be an idiot if he made it that obvious that her friends were being messed with.

Hmm. . . I'm honestly kind of torn on this episode. While I did enjoy it and thought that Discord was a great villain, I can't help but feel disappointed at the same time.

I guess it felt like the episode was moving to fast, it should have spent a little more time on each of the ponies being tricked/corrupted and I didn't like the whole mind control angle.

I thought this would've been better as a film tbh, where it could've spent a bit more time fleshing everything out
