There's this real sense that they'll never be able to defeat Discord. He seems way too smart, way too strong, and way too savvy to be beaten by the usual tricks. Celestia better have a plan up her coat for pat 2, otherwise it looks like Equestria is doomed

Because now Luna guards the night and protects equestria from the evil forces of evil. She's gonna show up in a Big Damn Heroes moment and redeem herself by completely turning the tables around. Also, Discord probably killed both Godmares' parents.

Plus, Luna&Celestia could easily have a Batman&Superman dynamic.

Okay, so Celestia acts more like Professor X, but what are you gonna do?

Personally, I don't think Discord is a villain of the redeemable variety. He's not just a pony-turned-evil like Luna, Celestia gave me the impression that he's the very personification of "discord" itself. I think trying to redeem him would be like trying to redeem the Dark Side itself, if the Dark Side had a personification.

I also don't think that John De Lancie should be that hard to bring back for the occasional episode, assuming Discord's fate allows for it and De Lancie's having as much fun playing the guy as we are watching him. If Transformers Prime can afford to have Adam Baldwin as a reoccurring character, I see no reason why Fi M shouldn't be able to afford to have Q pop by every once in a while. Especially now that Ponies are a Big Frikken' Deal.

Yeah, I don't see him being tricked easily. I think I prefer Discord to NM because he just seems like much more of a threat. I mean, NM seemed like she should have been incredibly powerful, but she kinda failed at breaking up the group and never really accomplished much; the Mane cast was always a few steps ahead of her.

I like the idea that Discord is enough of a threat that he successfully screwed them over. He's obviously not going to win in the end, but the fact that he screwed them up so badly is going to make their eventual victory mean more. When they faced NM, there was never really that sense that they had any trouble until the very end.

Did you guys notice how in the vision Discord showed the group, the carasoul Boutique was on a floating land mass?

Discord is killing the laws of physics, guys.

I can't believe that it took me as long as it did (Rarity's scene) to notice that he was using a representation of their marks to lure each of them in.

in desperation after the fall and death of the heroes the Princess will have no choice but to release the demons that turned her sister into nightmare moon and hope she decides to destroy Discord. But of course they'll work together and all of the world will be doomed.

As much as I like Discord, as a plot device he's pretty cheap. He's basically the classic Great Gazoo/trickster god who can do anything, so you can use him to teach basically any sort of lesson you like, and who has to be outwitted rather than fought.

Also, Celestia was unusually straightforward this episode, but still was basically a typical Big Good - calls the heroes, tells them what to do, then waits for them to come back. (Oh yeah, and still no Luna.)

Oh well, let's wait for next week!
