@turtle: Or hell, keep the knife and open up a new door whenever you need it, and ask the angels to clean up the specter it lets out, those assholes owe them. I remember after reading that book I'd thought of a half dozen ways around that bullshit ending within and hour or two, so why the hell did they have to get railroaded like that?

I refer to that lion in Narnia as the Jesus Allegory Lion.

@steve What's this Pony Fantasy 6?

@JT: I kinda am; they replaced the actor who plays Bravado, so I'm a bit leery of how it's going to turn out. It could be great, but I don't want to get too worked up.

@ginger: Final Fantasy 6, but with ponies. All the sprites are different, and I think they've redone all the dialogue.

When I read Chronicles of Narnia all of the christian allegory was lost on me. I read it as a fantasy novel.

Maybe because I was older when I read HDM but that story was very anvilicious with its anti-god themes.

The anti-religion stuff was especially grating in the second book. Very blatant with that scene with the witches.

Hey, Pullman. The practice of using castrati? Blame the opera industry in Italy, not the church.

I probably am the only one here who thinks "A Horse And His Boy" (Read the title CAREFULLY) is one of my favorite stories from the series
Apocalypse: Dirge Of Swans.

Up until the last book, the Narnia books work just fine if you ignore the religious elements.

Anyway, we should probably try to get back to ponies now. tongue

[up]I wouldn't call it my favorite, but it's definitely a good one.

What's this about religious elements?

CS Lewis was a Christian apologist (probably the most prominent of the last century), so he put religious themes into everything he wrote. The Chronicles of Narnia is a big ol' Christian allegory.

Still readable if you ignore them, though.

Chapters 9 and 10 up on the liveblog.

As for Narnia, as long as the story's good, you can make it as big of an allegory as you want, I don't care. I believe I've read them all up to The Silver Chair, then never bothered to finish the series. I did enjoy them all, though.

Yeah definitely readable.

And amusing that he made things like fauns and satyrs able to be "good" when they are typically seen as devils or demons in christian mythos.

Well, it's not a matter of being readable, it's just that it's there. I'm not complaining or anything. It's just there.

Y'know, I haven't seen any of the movies... only saw the old BBC thing with the hilariously bad special effects (seriously, makes the old Doctor Who look like Industrial Light & Magic).

[up]Well CS Lewis did love his mythology, even if he thought it was all pagan and stuff.

My grandparents had those old Narnia videos, and oh man were those effects bad. Pannic is right, old school Who is probably better effects wise.

Short story I found, Pinkie discovers the word "fuck" and uses it out of context.

Its that sort of story. .

Oh, so it's a film franchise, then? A new Daring Do movie is coming out pretty soon over here.

Oh I didn't know you had movies. Though I guess it makes sense given the film in hurricane Fluttershy.

@Lyra: you going to watch that movie? Given that it is Daring Do, I bet Dashie's going to try and get tickets for it.

Seriously, the old BBC series had some awful special effects. Worst I've ever seen in anything.

Rockin' theme tune, though.
