New topic: Do ponies have a school system similar to ours? As in, do they have required classes, similar class times (9 month classes, 3 month breaks), etc.

Yeah, I'm curious to see how I'm going to react to that. It's where my real pickiness comes in.

Also, I would be out of school completely if I weren't going for an extra degree. One year down, one year to go.

@Colin: I'm guessing it's a little more loose than that, but it's entirely possible that it works that way as well. There's probably a higher emphasis on vocational training, though. I'm assuming that there's a set curriculum up through maybe high-school level, and after that you'd go into a more specialized training program or an apprenticeship or something.

It is a little strange that they make a big deal of the name when pony society doesn't have anyone named God though.

It is usually assumed that they understand the concepts of gods and goddesses, though, and a lot of fanon refers to Celestia and Luna as goddesses.

ok read it, aaaaand...vary valid points on most of the criticism, the backstory elements don't really take hold and start feeling like a part of the story till Pip starts finding and using Memory orbs...and yes I can never get used to Gawd's name, even worse I listen to the audio version of those chapters, I had no idea till later it was Gawd and not God. Gets better when you learn it's short for Gawdonia and they start using that name more. But after R7 she doesn't really show up for a while anyway.

Diamond Tiara's is pretty much the only really unnecessary and mean spirited feeling fate of any cannon character, the rest either had better fates, or there fate had a direct impact on the story.

well most ponies assume (at least in the Stables) that while luna and Celestia physically died in the Balefire Event only there mortal shells actually perished and they ascended from Physical God to actual Goddesses, so at least in FO:E ponies know about gods.

as to school system, I see it as having a basic structure to teach all ponies the basics, and the majority of the higher learning is done as a apprenticeship system, ponies find an older pony that's experienced in the field they want to do, and become there apprentice. Though some higher schools do exist for ponies that just want to learn more, but they are few and possibly only one is the one Twi is at in canterlot.

Of course it helps that EVERY pony now only knows exactly what they want to do, what they love doing, but are also nearly savants at that field. Makes it so much simpler.

I have to admit that when Calamity tried to make a "We're on a mission from Gawd" joke, I cracked up. It shattered the immersion like no tomorrow, but it was funny. And yeah, the whole thing with Diamond Tiara just felt...unnecessary. Like, I finished reading it and basically thought "why was that in there?". Not to mention that making her a prison inspector is just bizarre.

And yeah, I think there are certainly pony colleges and universities, just they're entirely optional and not attending one doesn't really cause any issues. I mean, there have to be ponies who specialize in stuff like physics or history or literature that would need higher education just to absorb all the information.
