Him breaking down the mane cast was more for his own personal pleasure than anything else. As seen with fluttershy, he could beat them all with a poke if her REALLY wanted too

He softened them up then used his hypnosis bit.
Can the mane cast beat him even with the elements at this rate?
Oh, that's why Pinkie Pie mentioned chocolate rain. I thought she was just being random.

By the way, I find Rainbow Dash's retaliation to Discord insulting the princess fairly interesting.
EDIT: Also, I think it's pretty awesome that each pony was confronted by their cutie marks.

You do
not, I repeat, you do
not cast Dash and Celestia in an
Onee-sama relationship.

An action is not virtuous merely because it is unpleasant to do.
I loved how pissed Celestia was. I also liked the bitter exchanges between her and Discord. It really shows that they had a past together

Which is another reason why Discord didn't even try to break Twilight I suppose.

Why?

Well how would he break Twilight anyway? Her element is a lot more vague than the others.
I assumed that Discord figured that since Twilight Sparkle's element was magic, taking away her element would just take away her magic, which he already did by removing the horn. Of course, now he's gone and given it BACK... which will probably end up being the key to victory.
-Ignores all the rampant season 2 spoilers-
Is there any word of the Hub putting the season 2 episodes on their site any time soon? I don't have cable anymore so I can't watch it outside the internet. And I don't want to resort to certain "methods" just yet.

Screw your cover! I have Lash of Submission!
@Jesus Saves Hey, I just find it interesting cos' RD never seemed liked the kind of pony to demonstrate loyalty in terms of retaliating against insults. I mean, look at season 1, she usually indicates her assent to said insults. And I've never seen that trope before.
Discord is a huge troll.
"You fail to recognize that it matters not what someone is born, but what they grow to be."
I'm pretty sure that the elements were lost to them when Luna went crazy. Think about it, if arguing is what removes the power of the elements a fight to the scale of Celestia and Luna's would have definitely led them to lose them.
Dash does seem to be pretty loyal to Celestia. She got pretty upset about Discord's insults, and back in season 1 she got the most upset at Nightmare Moon for making her disappear.
@Michael Okay, that would just be awesome.
@Crowfall Yeah, I forgot about her reaction back in the first episode.

I hope so. Come on Part 2!
