THAT BASTARD

Recently saw the clip. I figured a little reality check would prevent me from getting my expectations about the premiere unrealistically high to just be disappointed when the episode airs (Best Night Ever anyone?). Besides, considering I visit threads like these on a semi-regular basis, I doubted I'd be able to avoid spoilers.

I'll admit, at Discord's first line, I was very disappointed. I was fine with him not being a black Alicorn or something like that, but he just seemed... stupid. But as soon as his very second line, I felt like there was actually some malevolence right beneath his surface attitude. I was reminded a lot of Him, which immediately redeemed him in my eyes. Plus, his turning the rest of the mane cast into earth ponies was awesome.

On another note, this was the final straw that made me start watching Star Trek: The Next Generation. I was surprised to see Q show up as early as the first episode, but I'm not complaining.

I think Discord caused strife between Celestia and Luna, turning her into Nightmare Moon.

So was I, since Q came off like one of those weird gimmicks a show would throw in late in its run to make it look fresh and fun again; but no, it was more like Q was the embodiment of the first season's silliness.

That's what I think as well. Fits perfectly well with his name, after all.

As a non-spoiler, it's worth mentioning that Q got a lot more character development as the series continued, and was a very key part of the TNG finale.

That's good to know, actually. I wasn't particularly impressed with the first episode, but considering TNG is the trope namer for Growing the Beard, that was to be expected.

For some reason I've gota pony version of Speed Demon in my head, with Discord instead of Him!

Discord is not truly evil, just Chaotic (Like Chaos) Celestia sealed him in rock because she thought he was evil.

I mostly visit this thread in spurts, so keep neglecting to mention, but I've seen some great growth in your art doing these training grounds. Your shading in particular has been looking really good as of late, and I especially like your Applejack without the hair bands. She's really quite cute.

On a different note, I had some time to kill today, and as a drama student and a brony, I decided to try my hand at some pony voice acting.

I know there are better ones out there, but I had fun and figured I may as well post them here in case anyone's interested in that sort of thing.

The Butterscotch/Blitz dub was really quite cute. The Elusive one had its moments too, but your Butterscotch/Blitz is definitely better.

Discord was ultra powerfull dick who was only interested with his amusement what caused only pain, suffering or destruction but time in stone prison make him learn his lesson and now he still is huge jerk with same powers but his action have hidden meaning and in the end can help his victims to improve or show all their streights, horever his games can cause much destruction to.

People suggesting that maybe Discord is not evil, just Chaotic Neutral, and doing it for the lulz, probably mixed up some of their term definitions.

For the record, "discord" is not a synonym of "chaos".

Discord means, by definition, tension and fighting between people. It can be the synonym of "disharmony", "strife", "conflict", or "infighting".

Assuming that the creators didn't commit the same mistake, and Discord's name isn't a misnomer but he actually represents the ideal of discord, it's impossible that he is not evil. He is literally the embodiment of all hostility, and thus totally incompatible with the magic of friendship.

Er... nope. Conflict is actually the driving force behind stories. You might as well equate him with Life, for all Life is Strife.

I would say that the mixed-up terminology is not the cause so much as a side effect. You know the Draco in Leather Pants effect? Just from the 1-minute teaser clip, Discord appears to be such a likable villain that people want him to be less-than-pure-evil, and the result of this desire is the rationalization that he's not evil so much as chaotic.

That all said, I would reserve judgment (in any direction) until I actually see him in the show.

And I knew it that he is not Evil Overlord, Obviously Evil, Complete Monster, Cosmic Horror and other similar stuff what fan hype sujest like that infaumous Sith Alicorn.

Technically, that is inaccurate, for example the Slice of Life genre often lacks Conflict.

And anyways, while the word "conflict" can be a synonym of discord, (eg. as it is used in "armed conflict"), the Conflict trope is more broad than that. "Man vs. Nature" is one type of Conflict, "Man vs. Self" is another, even "Male and Female" is a form of literary Conflict.

Conflict can happen without an individual character intentionally trying to spread dissent between the main characters.

Just because Discord's character fulfills that role in the plot, it doesn't exempt him from being evil. The Conflict could be coming from misunderstandings, or natural barriers, etc, but so far, it looks like it's coming from a character who is setting himself up as the opponent of the mane cast's harmony.

Why can't people just let him be evil? I'm the king of seeing villains in positive lights (as you should know, Jesus ) and even I just want him to be a straight villain.
