Now that I think about it, the worst you can do to Fluttershy isn't to reduce her to tears. Admit it, she's a bit of a crybaby, she's just that sensitive. But no, that's not the worst you can do.

The worst you can do is to traumatize her so much that she stops crying. Because something happened that was so terrible that you've pretty much forced her to bury her old self and adopt a stone-hard persona.

And I don't mean something resulting in a badass moment complete with The Stare^TM that we've seen a couple of times already. I mean something permanent.

Broken Bird, if you will.

But is there ANYTHING that can traumatize her that much? Fluttershy reminds a lot of Jaccuzi Splott, in that she cries and apologizes a lot, but mostly because it lets her be strong when it really matters. By the time she's facing a serious threat, she's already used up all of her tears. She's really strong willed deep down and I don't think it would be easy to break her (probably the hardest out of the Mane Cast)

How do you think the order goes, from the easiest to break, to the hardest to break?

Pinkie is either the easiest, or the hardest IMO

I think no one in the mane cast could endure being alone. It would be a Fate Worse than Death for all them including twilight.

I agree Fluttershy really is stronger than even she believes.

For Pinkie I'd say yes, but I find it hard to believe that the mane cast are that Co-dependant on each other.

Depends on what you mean by "alone". I think most of the cast could come to terms with not seeing the other cast members again, although it would probably take quite a while and the whole experience would obviously be hugely painful.

I think so. Remove all the mane cast's frienship, spike and Celestia from Twilight's life and she would completely break down.

I think we all need the love of someone. I doubt any one of them would endure even a second without friends.

Then the relationship really isn't a healthy one. It seems to border on an obsession when you word it like that. If they go INSANE when their alone.

Sometimes shit happens. I don't think Celestia would want her student to completely shut down just because she lost her friends

No really an obssesion perse. What I mean is that everyone needs to be loved, arguably even morse than eating or breathing.

As a note, the entire franchise goes Lighter and Softer from that pilot up until Friendship Is Magic, and one could argue that FiM is still not quite as "dark" as the original pilot (though that's not a bad thing).

If you're curious, here's the second TV special that features a drug addict cat lady. Its not quite as good as the first one, but it has Sundance from that Luna fanfic Progress! :P

I also kinda like this episode from the G1 series, which features Posey (the G1 pony that Fluttershy is based on) and a red & blue crab voiced by Peter Cullen.

Even if the current generation is better in overall quality (in my humble opinion anyways) its kinda nice to look back on the previous generations and see the franchise's roots.

Don't know if this◊ has been brought up before. I just think it's a neat theory.

I just can't imagine their lives grinding to a halt merely because their friends were gone. The mane cast wouldn't want that for each other
