Well, I just noticed something interesting.

Cadence's original three bridesmaids(Lyra, Colgate and I think the third white one is referred to as Twinkle), actually appear in Canterlot in the pilot episode - Colgate and Twinkle to invite Twilight to the party, and Lyra waves to her as she runs into her room. Since they obviously seemed to know Twilight, and liked her enough to invite her to a party, they must have had a history. Couple that with why they were the bridesmaids in the first place...

Lyra, Colgate and Twinkle were three other fillies Cadence sat for. She introduced them to Twilight to try and help her make more friends

Hardly a huge revelation there, but it's still a neat little detail. Assuming they put it there on purpose, which I'm honestly inclined to think that they did.

Also, as to why Filly!Twilight is different:

Sometime after becoming Celestia's student, she did something that upset her. Afraid of upsetting her ever again, Twilight withdrew herself into her studies and became obsessed with pleasing her.

Or something happened with Shining Armor or Cadence, which caused her to become so withdrawn.

Or Cadance just stopped foalsitting her, and after SA joined the Royal Guard he had less time to spend with his sis.

Notice also she was only really open around him. She seemed pretty distant with everyone else in that flashback
