@Mousa: I haven't even heard of that movie. Why is everyone apparently rushing to see it?

De-lurk pagetopper, oh yeah.

I think Seid Bereit is the first Disney song I ever heard in a foreign language. Mostly because people were saying that it sounded scarier in German.

Lol, Rainbow Dash attacked Twilight because she couldn't stand going more than an hour of pure roleplaying. I have most certainly had players do this before.

I don't know anything about it except that my mom owns the book the movie is based on. I haven't been around enough T Vs to see the commercials and ad-blocker takes care of everything else.
I analyze "Geek Culture" here.

I love thinking that this is the language they are actually speaking.

@Chadaman:I'm reading Friendship Is Dragons which is a retelling of the show as a Tabletop Rpg campaign, complete with out-of-character discussions and GM descriptions. Rainbow Dash is the stereotypical "just wants to get into awesome fights" player so far.

But you see, Enlong, Chad has already given us easily the clearest reason why the changelings could not reason with the ponies: they look evil. As we have seen from the show, Equestria is not a place famed for it's moral depth. I rather sincerely doubt they have philosophers. Celestia knew about them. I think they probably showed up before at one point, and I don't think it would be a big leap of logic to assume that the ponies may have turned them away because they simply 'look evil'.

There's also the fact that they're subversive by nature. Diplomacy likely doesn't occur to them off the top.

Do you think ponies speak to each other in English, or is it Translation Convention?

The Danish video is what made me think of it. Because, no one in The Little Mermaid ever says anything in Danish.

How much did Celestia actually know about the changelings before all of this though? This could be the first significant contact Equestria has had with them.

The Friendship is Dragons GM is a good GM, but she requires too many unnecessary rolls.

[up]She's been around for a thousand years, I'm sure she knows something.

Considering all of the pony puns, I'd have to say they speak "English", insofar that it's the same language, with a few different cultural conventions.

Cadance knew about them.

Most likely because of her rather personal interaction with Queen Chrysalis. I'm pretty sure that Celestia never showed an indication of knowing about them before the big reveal. And at the time of the big reveal, the dimplomatic option was decidedly not an option anymore.

Equestrian probably has its roots in the same place as English, or usage has converged with our current incarnation of English.

And it appears Rarity is the big roleplayer. This makes sense.
