@ginger: Well, the 'bad guys' are basically in control the entire time. Plus The Bigger Bads win.

@Crow: Well this was your standard mythological unicorn - pure white, blond mane, 9-inch horn and basically just a horse. But looks wise I guess Rarity? My friend actually whispered to me, "Rarity, noooooooo!" During the shot of it.

@Story: Yeah, it's in theaters still. Just came out last friday.

I... what?

Well anyways, they're not set up as the bad guys. It's more of a downer ending in general. Like, the ending still runs counter to the main villains motives, just, you know, also running counter to the protagonists motive. It's kind of a 'fuck everyone' ending.

I didn't really find it that meta, personally. Not like, say, Scream, anyway. It is however, a deconstruction.

It was easily one of the most meta movies I've ever seen. The control guys were acting as directors, the Ancient Ones were synonymous with the audience, and it gave an in-universe explanation for why everything adhered to standard horror tropes.

But it was all played completely straight in-universe. It had symbolism, sure, but it wasn't meta in the traditional sense.
