Re: Witchscapes

Rainbow Dash: Open sky, an endless ribbon of rainbow that twists this way and that, and falling. A lot of falling.

Rarity: Failed dresses, everywhere. And try not to get tangled up in measuring table and thread and bolts of cloth.

Applejack: Somehow the apple trees manage to turn into a dark forest. Tempestuous weather, gale-force winds, and apples the size of a house which fall up and try to kill you.

Pinkie Pie: The party guests from Party of One. And stabby cupcakes.

@blue Just the people who call PMMM a deconstruction. The more I hear about the way these girls work the more ridiculous it sounds

But doesn't the witchscape reflect the circumstances that turned you into a witch?

Partially. I mean, Sayaka's had train tracks, yes, but most of it was an orchestra and a theater and a really freakin' huge conductor. Not sure how the wheels fit in, though.

@Ginger:It is a Deconstruction. That doesn't mean it's realistic. It just means that the internal logic of the show is much more consistent and thought-out than normal shows in it's genre, which is very true. It also means that the show eschews common tropes that are taken for granted in the genre which don't really make sense. For instance, in Magical Girl shows, the main girls are just about always happy, which doesn't really make a lot of sense because they've essentially become child soldiers with a hidden double life that alienates them from society.
Element of Dullness.

I guess it's based more on your wish.

I edited in something and yes, witchscapes are a combination of wish and place where the final source of despair occured.

The wheels came from the train.

@Blue but the rules of this magical world are set up to be horrifyingly cruel and mean.

You wanna deonstruct the magical girl genre. Put the cast of Sailor Moon into the real world and see how they-

fuck it forget. Fucking Madoka Magica I'll never get it

Goodness you people post fast.

Why would I be worried about the tower?

Death represents great change, while The Tower represents ruin. Also, chaos, crisis, impact, etc.

It's not a fun card. See, the imagery is of a tower being struck by lightning and splitting apart. The tower represents things that have been built up (perhaps on false foundations) being torn down.

Fun fact: in Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince, the astute among you may remember that Professor Trelawny found herself repeatedly pulling The Tower on the same night that the thing that everyone remembers from that book happened. In fact, the chapter where it actually happens is titled "The Lightning-Struck Tower". Fun stuff.

The last few cards in the deck follow an interesting progression. We have The Devil, which represents temptation, vice, and obsession, followed by the Tower, representing crisis and ruin. A Darkest Hour kind of thing. Then, we get The Star, The Moon, and The Sun. Three cards of increasing strength, each symbolising inner qualities, and, in two of them, hope and joy. Then, we have Judgement, which represents rebirth and salvation, and finally, The World, perhaps the most positive card in the deck.

Can people stop trying to get Ginger to watch it? He's convinced he won't get it, and I'm actually inclined to agree. End of story, enough already, I'm sick of the discussion.

If only PMMM had a good villain... if only. Then I could speak with you people about this stuff with more comprehension and understanding sad

Anyway the two incarnations of Death I know aren't really wicked, not like that Dracula's Confidante Death from Castlevania.

@Enlong: What about the Fool and the Hanged Man?

I mean, Death isn't the happiest of cards: change can also mean loss as easily as it can mean new opportunities, but The Tower is a far more ominous omen.

...is it redundant to say "ominous omen"?

There's no harm in sating his curiosity, even if he doesn't get it (sounds kinda Kyubey lol).

[up] That's what happens when Cohen the Barbarian nicks your omen because you didn't claim dibs [lol]

True, Good Omens are a thing. It just sounds like "Ominous" an d "Omen" have similar origins. They sound liek the same word, just changed around a bit.

Twilight Sparkle: Two words: magic kindergarten. Probably will be tossed around like a ball by foals made out of construction paper or something. Oh, and the ticking. The incessant ticking.

@Orion: Different Fortune Tellers might use different methods. Most common is shuffling the deck and drawing off the top.

We chill, badwolf. Ginger's curious about Madoka, although he doesn't quite get it.
